Full Version: Jewish Sources On The Net

I have yet to see this on H.com (although maybe this was done in the old days before my arrival.) Websites on the Internet where one can find information or something useful related to Jewish topics. It would be nice to have such collected in one place, i.e. one thread.

To get the ball rolling, let me start with two:

http://www.hebcal.com/ -- this has a perpetual Jewish/secular calendar. There are different options to include the parshiyos, yomim tovim, etc. It also has a Shabbos candle lighting time calculator.

http://shamash.org/kosher/ -- has a listing of kosher restaurants throughout the world. some of the entries are a little dated, but it is still a good resource

Feel free to add your own. I am especially interested in Torah sources -- like links to pages of the Talmud or the Rambam. (I know I have seen them here before, but did not save them.)

Edit by TheGrimReaper:

Please see Post #59 for an extensive list of sources that have been compiled over time in the several pages of this thread.

Thanks. I have re-quoted it here just to keep everything together:

There's an enormous amount of free online material here. When I'm online I can usually find what I'm looking for from one of the links. The material is in different formats so it's not all equally usefull. Here are some useful examples:

Megillat Ta'anit

Tanach, Shas, Yad Ha-Chazakah (you can copy and post to h.com posts from this format)

Ben Ish Chai

Pirkei Derabbi Eliezer

but if you click around here you'll find a tremendous amount of material when you don't have your seforim accessible.

Since this thread has been bumped, I thought I'd add to the collection.

I already posted a link to Halacha Brura which has seforim in a variety of formats, including HTML from which you can copy and paste to h.com posts, and PDF. If you look in the acharonim section of halachah, they have the kitzur shulchan aruch in three parts in PDF with the She'arim Metzuyanim Be-halachah. If you don't have the right software you can't copy and paste it easily but it's very handy for looking up the kitzer when it's referenced on h.com.

HebrewBooks is another site.

Daat is another site with a lot of seforim from which you can copy and paste. This is their homepage and if you click around you'll find a tremendous amount of resources. Especially, on the right side in blue, "Sifrei yesod" (basic books).

For copying and pasting Shulchan Aruch.

I found this site googling for something from Midrash Rabba in response to a question that Aristotle asked. It has the entire MR online as well as tons of other stuff. Some are links to things already posted in this thread from Mechon Mamre and Shechem.org, but I hadn't noticed the Chumash with Onkelos at Machon Mamre before. Locally there is also the Midrash Tanchuma, Yalkut Shimoni, Benei Yissachar, and Kuzari.

OK, I decided as a public service to consolidate the above posts.

Halachah Brurah (most of what you could possibly ever want) {melech}

Feinberg E-Collection (access to Bar-Ilan, EJ, and piles of other stuff; subscription only, though. But it's dirt cheap and well worth it.) {nondenom}

Hebrewbooks.org has a lot of stuff too, especially American journals etc. printed in the early 20th century. Clicking on the links on top of the page will get you seforim like Mishne Halachos and the Sichos. HOWEVER, I am suspicious of their copyright scruples, being that their copy of the Bnei Yissoscher looks suspiciously like one I paid $15 for. {melech; a similar link for the Bnei Yissoscher was posted by p_almonius}

Daat seems to have a lot of ASCII sifrei machshavah. {melech}
Here there are a lot of ascii Chabad seforim, including the RSA and Likutey Torah/Torah Ohr. {melech}

Aishdas. I'm not familiar w/ this site. {Aristotle}

SeforimOnline has lots of stuff, especially of philosophical/scientific interest. Make sure you poke around the unsorted seforim section. Also, I advise using a browser which you don't mind it crashing, because their server seems to be very slow. {Aristotle}

Mechon-Mamre {p_almonius}

Snunit has all your basic Hebrew text needs. {melech, again}

Wikipedia's Rambam's List of Mizvos {TGR}

Any Kabbalah sefer you can possibly think of. The site is Czech, I think, but that shouldn't stop you. Perfect for those occasions you just need to copy/paste that quote from Rabbi Avraham Abulafia. {Gabbe}

For your Daf needs. Judging from the participation in that forum, I doubt we'll be needing it. {enigma}
