R' B Wein because he teaches very interesting facts about history.
And Rabbi Reisman is so on the money with many of his tapes, and you never know what direction he will go in with his shiur when he begins. The best one i heard from him is the one on Achdus. (Fargin, Farcook)

I listened to R' Reisman's tapes on halachos of nidda and was very impressed with them. He had a good approach and spoke well on the subject.
I generally like R' Frand's tapes but occasionally I find one or two that are stinkers. I liked his first book and thought his second book was lousy, preachy and kvetching.

OY! That was an account I set up - yes - I did come in way back when. But at some point someone hijacked it - I was very stupid when choosing a password.
That post was not mine - I would never post the name David Goldman on this forum. He was actually the original Usenet troll whom I crowned Admou"r meCreedmoor. At this point he is not even a faint memory, and the Admou"r meCreedmoor is registered under the name Dovid Shmoigerman.
The Admou"r will actually be online himself in 40 minutes or so!
Currently, my favorite tapes to listen to are R' Avigdor Miller, he is sharp and to the point though..so if you like cushiony type I don't recommend him b/c he says it straight out as it is..(I have one in the house I am in the middle of that I listen to while cleaning up and a diff. one in the car since I can't put on music anyways) and he's Great.

I like Shmuley Boteach a lot.
Although he is not so accessible - I went to him for Shabbat dinner once, but he is often travelling or shmoozing. He is not a real "personal rav."
But I really like his ideas.
He is the perfect combination of traditional and modern.
He is traditional in all the ways I am, but modern in many of the ways I am.
For example, he is very pro-woman, and lays a lot of responsibility for the problems of the relationships between the genders in the Jewish world on men,for not treating women right.
However, he is not a "feminist" in that he thinks woman and men should be equal in all ways. He simply feels women should be respected more.
He's actually an innovative thinker - about things like women, homosexuality, intermarriage. I guess he's sort of moderate.
He doesn't recommend these things - homosexuality and intermarriage, for example. Yet he doesn't feel people should be excommunicated from the Jewish community because of them, because that may have more negative effects than positive.

But do the Lubavitch still consider him 'one of theirs?? (I'm sure if they knew what he would go on to do they wouldn't have given it to him..much the like Bergs' smicha..)

Aug 2 2005, 06:22 PM
No the Lubavichers don't consider him Lubavicher, nor does he consider himself Lubavicher anymore I believe (although I saw a picture of the rebbe in his house I'm almost sure.)
However, all that doesn't negate the fact that he did receive smicha.
