Update-
He might have a chance to have a full recovery but it is too early to say. He is still in the"mild" coma. Please continue to daven hard for him. Klal Yisrael need him - his dream is to bring the Jews closer to Hashem with wisdom of Torah. (and of course I am speaking for myself,my family and especially his wife and the kids).

He is grizzling his teeth -- which is a usually a good sign. He is also wiggling his left foot and toes. He is moving very often -(opening) his mouth, neck, arms. Although he has a small fever and infection --pneumonia(which is normally happen during the hospital stay). The doctor are no longer monitoring his brain pressue since it is known after a certain days that the brain swelling should go down. He was under sedation the second time but they are removing this medicine slowly small by small. He is still in coma.
Please keep davening !!!
P.S. Thanks- Mindy

Latest Update of my Bro -- Avraham Yeshuah Ben Yochana Margolit.
He had a high fever for a while -- we were afraid that it was something in head injury. It turned out that there was an infection in his pancreas-- so it is taken care of with antibotics.-- so his fever went down. Just tonight my aunt told me that he is responding more tonight -- he was able to squeeze the hands of relatives and nurses on the command. So it look like he is aware/recognizing presence by hearing the voices of relatives . So please keep praying for his speedy refuah shlema...

Update of my brother - Avraham Yeshuah Ben Yochana Margolit
Correction -- we thought that he is responding by squeezing his hands -- it is not intentional one -- it is just a reflex movement of his hands.
Update - The fever is down to 98s as I saw him this morning. He is moving a lot with his right arm (lifting up and down very often.) And somewhat he is moving his left arm but not often as right arm. He is moving both of his feet-- legs as well. He is breathing on his own with a humidfeder tube to his neck not from his mouth. He is still in coma but from what I was told that he is conscious since people who are unconscious are not able to breath on their own. He is sweating to maintain his body temperature which also is a good sign that the brain is functioning in the right way.
We the family are very hopeful for his fully recovery-- the doctors are already talking about rehab already. But we want him to get out of his coma sooner than later.
Please keep davening for him.

YOCHANA is a feminine form of the Hebrew masculine name YOCHANAN, meaning G-D IS GRACIOUS.
JOHANNA is the Anglicized version-- my mother is known for this name....

Jan 17 2006, 08:50 PM
The doctors caution that progress will likely be slow, so if you haven't heard anything from me for a while it is because there is no real news. Except for his right arm and leg -- he is very active (moving a lot -- kicking... -- Notice the brain injury is on the right side of his brain so we are hoping for more movements on his left side.)
Yeshuah was scheduled to be transferred this week to Kessler, a top rehab facility in East Orange, New Jersey.
This is all I have for the moment.

Yeshuah is now at the Kessler facility in East Orange, New Jersey. As far as I know, the move went smoothly. They sat him in a chair yesterday and he opened his eyes, which is a good sign, although he isn't tracking or seeing anything yet.

My aunt wrote this in email :
The neurologist who has seen Yeshuah since the accident continues to see progress, albeit it comes in very tiny increments.
He seems to be opening his eyes more, particularly the right one. The left half of his body is the side that isn't moving much, due, I believe to the fact that the right side of the brain sustained the most damage.
I am not clear on whether or not his eye followed the movement of someone's finger nor can I confirm that he seemed to have squeezed hands on command. It may take a while until I am in a position to supply good, reliable information.
They are dressing him at Kesseler and seating him in a chair. I also understand they've put a splint on the left hand or arm because it isn't moving.

Once again my aunt wrote :
There seems to be some progress. Yeshuah can hold up his head for small amounts of time, a new development, and he can hold up two fingers or give a thumbs up when asked.
His right side continues to move and visitors like his brother feel that he moves more when he hears the voices of his loved ones close by.
He still isn't moving his left side very much, but there seems to be less posturing. Posturing is the term the doctors use to describe movement initiated in the lower brain centers. As that seems to be indicative of damage to higher brain function, less of that is better, so this too is good news.
The doctors have also removed his tracheotomy tube for the first time since the accident.
Please be aware of the fact that as a lay person I may not always get the medical facts straight but that I am doing my best to understand the information I get and pass it along accurately.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.

Aunt wrote:
Yeshuah's wife just called to inform me that the head doctor at Kessler involved in Yeshuah's rehab - not a particularly "upbeat" type - has expressed optimism about Yeshuah's progress.
Yeshuah, he believes, is responding very consistently to commands. He is less "agitated" than he was, and the Dr. believes he is beginning to move into the the next phase toward what they call "purposeful behavior." Of course there can be many phases until he's actually there.
His eyes open consistently and though he can't be sure he's focusing, he thinks he might be.
He also said that they are much less worried and more hopeful about their previous sense of the left side and its "posturing behavior." There is less of that and he is holding up his arm more.

My Mistake ---
Coma refers to a state in which the patient is basically not communicating with the outside world. It is not so much a one-phased situation as much as a continuum in which the patient can be in a heavier or lighter coma.
While Shuah appears to be becoming more aware of his loved ones, he is not yet out of the vegetative state. He is not communicating and may not for a long time yet.
My Aunt Katey Wrote :
Every lit bit counts...
They feel that Shuah's left side, about which there was concern, is taking a turn for the better. There seems to be some muscle tissue alive in the hand and the arm is beginning to move.
He uses his right hand to grab a pillow and throw it on the floor. (I'm hoping this is a sign he hates the food).
He is moving his head with control.
He squeezed his wife's hand purposefully, as well as his brother.
Hie eyes were half open two days ago and when Phyllis, his mother-in-law, asked him to look at her, he turned his head toward her.
His cousin Nesanel trimmed his beard and gave him a nice hair cut. This makes the scar and depression in his head noticeable, like a little bowl, but it is also an indication of how much the swelling in his brain has gone down. (Immediately after the accident ,the doctors took out a piece of his skull to allow room for the brain to swell w/o causing more damage. They embedded the skull piece in his abdominal tissue so the body won't reject it when they're ready to put it back where it belongs.)
