First:
How do you guys understand the Gemara's rather convoluted attempts to protect the translation of אור as "night" in the first daf?
Second:
The Gemara on 3a states:

Rashi explains that since she was frightened of the camel, she sat, rather than rode (sidesaddle?), because it is more secure.
My question: According to Rashi, how is ישב more proper than רכב ? They denote two different sorts of sitting, one more secure than the other, and not two synonyms!
