Would you look down on someone if they had octuplets and gave some of them away?
sinnikal
I would look down at someone who had octuplets period. What kind of jerk has octuplets?
agent220
No. I would look up at them for carrying them for so many months (none of you guys were ever pregnant, and I can't even imagine carrying twins!)...and not blame them for any decisions they make -- cuz hey, it's their life, and maybe it is the best decision. Not, perhaps, what mine would be, but what business is it of mine to judge others?

I agree with that opinion. What would you do in that situation? I think that's a harder question than whether you would look down on them or not.

you dont have octuplets with IVF. No doctor in their right mind transfers more than four embryos, nand that's only if you're over 40. Octuplets can happen if you take fertility drugs without being monitored properly. I cancled TWO cycles because I had six eggs once and seven eggs the next time. I didnt even want to risk quads.

By law you have to keep siblings together.

Dont know. But I do know that when twins go up for adoption they go together. There is no seperating them anymore.
Red Hare
It's quite a sad question.

I can't pick any of your poll options.
My vote is - no- don't know what I'd do myself.

Yes, how can you give away your own blood and flesh? And how do you choose which one to sacrify? That's just awful.
sultan_knish
what if they instead joined a circus with an octuplet juggling act?

My sentiments exactly. It's not for me to judge a person or his/her decision. Nor can I imagine it was an easy decision for the couple to make.

Yes, twins is hard, and I can't fathom carrying more than twins. But even though it's their life, they took the risk by doing fertility drugs irresponsibly. No responsible parent, and/or doctor will do IUI if there are more follicles than deemed safe. Period. If they do, the doctor and the parents are to blame, as they agreed on being irresponsible. And they have to suck it up and live with it.

IVF

Wrong. IVF can NOT under normal circumstances even give you quads. The only way quads happen (usually) is either clomid, or an IUI with too many follicles. Or some other drug like pergonal etc... IVF usually has max 3 embryos transferred (in severe cases they can transfer four). Most of the HOM are usually lesser than IVF treatment.

No. It's not a law. It's preferable. But if there is no other choice, then they can be split up. And twins is not the same as siblings.

Man plans, God laughs. I know someone who had 3 -- and she ended up with quads. One of the fertilized eggs split, resulting in identical twins. B"H they are all healthy, but still. Things happen.

(Octuplets is stretching it though)

Octuplets would be more similar to twins than regular siblings. I think such a case would be good for open adoption if any (though I wouldn't give my own away) though that can always lead to the question of why me for the ones who were given away.

I was going to add this bit of info at the end of the post, but forgot. It happens fairly often that the embryos split, resulting in more babies.

I know someone who had only two transferred and BOTH of them split, so she ended up with two sets of ID twins. How's that for cool?

But you do realize that octuplets is not exactly in that category.
