Let's take 3 or 4 of the most debated topics, send letters to a bunch of Rabbonim across the religious spectrum and post the answers for further debate.
Aristotle
Ideally yes.
Gabbe
Not a bad idea...
Cassandra
Nah, it would cause to much rabbi bashing.
mendelbaum666
hmm I can just see it now

Dear Rabbi _____ Shlita

I saw this issue discussed on the internet um in a bais medrash and was wondering what the Rov's opinion in this matter. There were many people posting discussing (insert most quoted posek) opinion and was interested to know if this is how we hold to today so that I can post report back to my fellow H.comers friends in shul.

In case it didn't go over the first time...

Sounds like a good idea in theory although it would probably only lead to Rabbi bashing. Anb you say once you have the answers you want to further to debate them. What's to debate after you get an answer from a posek?
LoveToLaugh
I like the idea a lot. But it would take a lot of time and discussion just to figure out which topics and which Rabbis. TRA - do you want to be in charge of it?

Another idea could be to pubilsh some of the better debates in some sort of Jewish publications and see what the letters to the editor look like.

We're not looking for a p'sok, rather a healthy discussion.

Well, I don't mind being in charge but it will work better if it's run by committee (also a wide spectrum of members), if we get some of the good posters to sign up we should definitely make this happen.

Also a good idea, but someone with good editing skill (I'm way under-qualified for that) would have to go through the thread first.

Why look for something to discuss about a topic? Get an answer and explain it to everyone.
(I'm gonna be pounced on for this.)

But remember, the internet is assur. Plus, we normal little people aren't allowed to doubt da'at yisra'el. Certainly, some rabbanim would be chill with putting their opinions out for discussion, but I doubt very many.
Gabbe
Da'at Torah, dude. We've discussed this. You're not allowed to post Hebrew phrases without consulting me first. In return, I ask you all my Greek and Akkadian grammar questions.

I disagree. The names of the Rabbi's are important. And, BTW, there are Rabbis who use the internet, forget permit it's use.

The issue was namely about whether or not Rabbi XYZ Shlita should be put into cherem based on his psaks. Or his hair color; I'm not sure, the site is down bais medrash is up for repairs.

A Rabbi to mediate answers to online poster's questions, which were derived for the sole purpose of obtaining answers from other unsuspecting Rabbis. Who, btw, are clueless that their well thought-out answers could be posted anonymously on an online forum for the purposes of debate?

What am I missing here?

Yes, it's a great idea--minus the subversion, which includes ourselves IF the internet is assur (depening on which Rabbi you listen to?).
the Real Adiel
1. The letters will clearly state that the answers will be posted on hashkafah.com, anything else would be dishonest and wrong. If we lose a few answers so-be-it.

2. I think it would be more fun if we withheld the names of the Rabbonim until the very end, we should be talking about the issues after all, not about sectarians differences. I fear that if the names are released more discussion will be devoted about the rabbonim then about the topic on hand. Perhaps when the topics start to fade the names can be released....Perhaps
