The Nissan was occupied by a frum couple. They are 56 and 53. They were trapped inside the vehicle after impact and freed by rescue workers.

He was flown from the scene to a area hospital where he's listed in stable condition. She was flown to University Hospital and she's listed in critical condition.

Update:
The husband is in stable condition and was scheduled to go into surgery this afternoon at 3 pm for his leg and hip. The wife is also Baruch Hashem in stable condition and in the ICU.

Please continue to daven for them.

Yes. I think the wife is in worse shape. The one thing I heard I'm not repeating since it came from the mouth of my 13 year old sister, and I'm not sure how reliable her info is...but it sounded pretty bad.

I saw more pics, BTW. It's incredible...basically what happened is an SUV going the opposite way went over the median and crashed head on into their car, then into another car (the mother and kid were treated and released from the hospital) and then one other car where the driver was unharmed. The SUV driver I think was released from the hospital already.

This couple had the worst of it, and they probably have a lot of therapy ahead of them, but right now we need to daven that they get completely healed.

I also heard some info about the wife, it sounded not so great, it could be that your sister wasn't so far off. I hope that what I heard was just exaggeration.

BTW, my mother was supposed to be right there yesterday morning when the accident occurred, but her car kept on stalling. She prayed "Please don't let me die" -- meaning the car, but it took a whole lot more meaning afterwards when she never made it there because of her car...(she doesn't usually go there; it was a one-time thing that she should have been there b'davka yesterday morning.)
Knowing her, she probably made the story a bit more dramatic, but still it's pretty spooky...

The wife is conscious and aware of her surroundings and sounds. Doctors are hoping to take her off the respiratory soon but for the most part she is breathing on her own. Should be getting an update later today as well...

Baruch Hashem the husband's surgery was successful and without complications. He will begin rehab this afternoon. He is in fine spirits, looking well and reading the sports pages and extends his gratitude for everyone's wishes and prayers and may be discharged as soon as this Sunday.

The wife had a procedure this morning to work on infection in the affected areas, it is called a wash and she will have it again on Sunday. Sometime next week they will operate on her hand. That will be a 6 hour surgery. As soon as I hear when surgery is scheduled I will let you know so Tehillim can be said. G-d willing she will be off the respirator today.

The wife had surgery yesterday and Baruch Hashem all went well. She is temporarily back on the ventilator and is very susceptible to infection. Please daven that she should have a refuah shleima bkarov.
