General Description: Coordinates data management, analysis and presentation of findings. Participates in development of scientific data and other activities for the principal investigator. Exercises independent judgment in resolution of data management problems. Database Manager for multiple genetic epidemiologic studies. Manage data collected for longitudinal, multi-site, and single center studies under the guidance of the Statistician/Data Analyst supervisor.

Specific responsibilities include cleaning incoming data files, integrating these data files into a web-based data management system, updating summary files, integrating data from different sources including other databases into a central web-based database, processing data requests from scientific investigators; and ensuring data quality through the execution of computer programs, development of protocol, and other quality assurance activities of the research coordination team.

The Database Manager will be expected to assume oversight of specific work tasks in coordination with other faculty and staff. The primary duties and responsibilities of the job: Coordinates with statistician/data analyst regularly to determine needs. Manages database. Prepares and/or participates in the preparation of manuscripts. Analyzes unit operating practices such as record keeping systems, forms control, office layout, personnel requirements, creating new systems or revising established procedures. Interprets and communicates operating policies. Coordinates collection and preparation of operations reports. Locates and compiles information and formats reports, graphs, tables, records and other sources of information. Assembles and categorizes facts and figures for written computation and calculations. Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required in related field. Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring good oral and written communication skills. Should be comfortable using Macintosh & PC computers, UNIX operating system & all Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access). Excellent communication skills, collaborative research experience & ability to handle multiple tasks at one time a must.

Preferred Qualifications: Public Health research experience preferred. Two years related experience preferred, but recent college graduate will be considered. Proficiency in at least one statistical package (Stata, SPSS, SAS) is preferred.

i don't know why it's still used at all...it's the most inefficient and ineffective stats program i've come across.
