Per Machmir's suggestion:

Here is The Artscroll Eretz Yisrael Adaptor Pamphlet.

Kalashnikover_Rebbe
I saw recently that Smartscroll put out a special edition of the all Hebrew siddur with minhag EY.

It was very nice...

The Kosel is now fully stocked with them.......
myaccountname
those look to me like minhag ha'Gra
Gabbe
Well, minhag EY is a hodgepodge of Minahg HaGRA and minhag Sefard, so it makes sense.

yup, I read that they were doing a massive promotion of the siddurim, and handing out some free ones. guess thats the last market they have left to conquer.

Really? I better rewrite my blog entry than. Doh!

I didn't notice that - I was at the Kosel today. Though I just ignore the Artscoll siddur and go for the native ones.

Disgusting if you ask me. Stay out of EY. They have to steal the Israeli publisher's parnussah?

Oh, and Minhag HaGRA pretty much doesn't exist.

business decision to begin conquering the EY market.
Machmir
I knew about some of the everyday changes, but was suprised about the ein kEokeinu, didnt know EY minhag was so similar to sefard.
Gabbe
Not a coincidence.

Not a coincidence.

ok, in general is it closer to sefard than the disapora ashkenaz?
Gabbe
In general, EY Ashkenaz picked up things from Nussach Sefard. Examples include:
The longer Yechadshehu.
Borchu-Ein Kelokeinu.
Sim Shalom at Mincha for Shabbos (This was the Oberland Minhag in Ashkenaz, but it's not where NEY got it from.)
Duchenen, unless you argue that it is Nussach HaGRA.

Oh, and saying tefillos Geshem/Tal before Shemoneh Esrei.

They are blue and look like the brown all Hebrew smartscrolls. And they only were procured recently (a month or two ago)

No one complained when Feldheim made siddurim. Besides the Smartscroll product is clearly superior to most siddurim out there. The letters are clear, there are clear paragraphs, you don't have to flip pages, there are clear halachos (at least according to the psak of Rabbi Art Scroll) etc..

If anything it will encourage the rest of the siddurim to bring their standards up to par (which has slowly been happening anyway). Toldos Avraham Yitzchak put out an absolutely stunning siddur a few years ago, and even Chabad bit the bullet, stopped photocopying other photocopies of that ancient manuscript of Tehilas Hashem, and completely re-typeset the siddur. They also finally put out a usable English version that IMHO is comparable to Smartscroll.

And the Smartscroll siddurim may be printed in Israel, I will check next time I get the chance.

Actually, I hate Artscroll. The Hadassah font which they ripped looks nice for signs and stuff, but for extended siddur reading I like the traditional siddur fonts. That being said, better Artscroll than Birnbaum...

manuscript, v. (man, meaning hand; script, meaning written). You mean photo-offsetting the original edition. I think they were doing that on purpose for some sort of ideological reason. That being said, the new Chabad siddur is quite nice. It's a shame they skip pretty much everything.

Okay...but why are all Artscroll products so much more expensive than Israeli stuff? They even have tons of sponsers - if anything it should be cheaper.

I've always wondered that myself, they get gvirim to sponsor editions of seforim and then sell them for exorbitant amounts. How much do they get for a hebrew-english gemara these days? and $50 for the tanakh seems a bit steep to me.... I understand lots of work goes into publishing these seforim, but I would love to see their ledgers at the end of the day.....

But I have to admit, they make nice seforim, and they have more or less set the standard of competition.

Forget about trying to buy the hebrew-english gemara in Eretz Yisrael - the price is through the roof.

Indeed. But it came out after the pamphlet did.

It's success here is mediocre.

I am not surprised at all. And note that it's mostly being marketed to chutznikim who are coming to Medinat Yisrael Reishit Tzemichat Ge'ulateinu, rather than to permanent residents.
After all, ArtScroll has a very galut mentality, in my opinion. [please don't ask me to substantiate that claim - I cannot]

It'll be hard to overthrow the tefillas kol peh and the kol renah siddurim that have been used here forever. But Artscroll costs more. That said Anglo minyanim here do have them (yes, melech there are chutznikim that made Aliyah too) and like K-Rebbe said the Kotel is full of them - dontated by chuznikim. Perhaps artscroll made them just so people have something to donate to the kotel?
