Reb Mendel M'Riminov said, that saying Parshas Ha'monn (Shneyim Mikroh V'Echod Targum) on Tuesday Parshas B'Shalach, is a Segulah for Parnasah.
(Tuesday Parshas B'Shalach is this Tuesday - Feb. 3 2004)

Can tefilah to the Ribonoi Shel Olam ever be wrong?

Not if it is a true tefillah. But if it is empty of kavanah and used only as a good-luck charm then yes it can be wrong.
