Full Version: How Do I Write A Grant Proposal

Someone hired me to tutor. At the end of our conversation conversation I mentioned a certain grant foundation and they asked me if I could get them a grant. I said I'll see.
My question is, how can I make money off this? Can I call my contact, see if they will give the grant, and then tell the person who wants the grant I will get them the grant for a cut? Do I have to write a grant proposal? Are those hard to write? I never did that before.
I don't see anything unethical here. If I get a place a grant why can't I charge. Its not my job to get them a grant. Normally I'm the type to do it for free but I realise I got to start thinking like a business person.

I've seen (slightly helped) people do it. It looks tedious. Do you know anyone who writes grants for a living? They may have answers for you.

And definitely, you can charge, though I don't know how much.

it's a skill that comes naturally to some but can be learned (and can be very lucrative). there are grant-writing workshops and courses you might look into.

I once dated a grant writer. The funny thing was she got $10,000 from the politician my dad is cheif of staff for and she knew my father.
Most of my friends are learning, rabbeyim and just one lawyer and a programmer. But I've dated girls from all types of professions.
The only thing holding me back from taking a course is I can't afford it. But your idea is great. Oh. I'm up to 30 hours of tutoring a week! I'll probably stop taking on more tutoring right now. And maybe I'll get a civil service job. I'm feeling hopeful. Imagine if my career sitation one day worked out. And I got married...

Is it working out nicely?

Yes. I love tutoring. Today I did 3 hours of gemara tutoring. Normally it will be 4 hours on a Wed. Some of my chavrusas I tutor are really smart but even those who aren't are still fun to teach. And preparing is nothing. I use Yisa Bracha for pashut pshat. Dvar Yaakov if I need a good Rishon or Achron to say over. Also, I learned the gemaras I'm teaching so many times. I could do it in my sleep.

Anything I don't have to prepare for. wink.gif I don't tutor regularly. My last job was teaching someone (much older than myself) how to use their computer.
