Full Version: Bringing Your Tallis Home On Yom Tov Morning

The gemara talks about transferring items from one domain to another on yom tov. According to Beis Hillel, when the transfer is for no reason whatsover, it is permitted md'oraisah. But according to the Rabanan, it is assur (muktza). That's according to Rashi.

Tosfos however, says that any transfer done for no purpose is assur, even md'oraisah.

If this is the case, how can we carry a tallis bag home after shul on Yom Tov if it will serve no purpose other than going to the shelf? I understand why we would allow a machzor, as you'll need it for kiddush. But why the tallis bag?

Would it change if you have the machzor inside the tallis bag?

I don't have permission to post on the thread.

The Shmeeros Shabbos K'Hilchoso says it's OK to bring home a talis on shabbos with an eruv because it's similar to putting away seforim. IOW, if it's the normal thing to do (putting away something when you're done with it) then it's OK.

There was a thread about it.

Thanks!
