I'm trying to figure out what % my portfolio moved annually over the last 3 years. It gets complicated because I am always moving money in & out of the account.

Does anyone here have the math skills to do this for me? Willing to pay for your time. Unless there is an easy formula.

That's a very vague metric. Try to define it more precisely.

How is it vague? if the portfolio is $1 at the beginning of the year and $1.25 and the end of the year then the portfolio is up 25%

Yes but if you are transferring money in and out, it's sort of meaningless. If I start with $1 and then deposit $5 in November, and then I end up with $6 at year end, does that mean my portfolio appreciated 500% for the year?

That's why I need help, I don't know how to calculate it.

What does that have to do with anything?

How often are you moving money in and out already? Either way you could always check your account transactions and then work from there. Shouldnt take you too long to figure out.

I could do it but it will take time, depending on the size of your portfolio and number of transactions. PM me with details.

What does this have to do with math ? Do you have issues with substraction and addition ? Just print out all your trades and add P/L in excel.

Deposits are not portfolio returns.

One metric is portfolio's life to date p&l divided by average market value of the portfolio (averaged from daily closing values).
