If it was just another regular workday you wouldn't feel the need to point it out.

It's an 'illegal' holiday. If I'm getting paid to stay home then I will.

I always worked on this holiday as I worked at jewish businesses (except one year when I dealt with hotels and hospitals, whose workers were off.)

Nope, kids went to school, I went to work, worked as usual. It just always amuses me that my kids are not subjected to the hype that I grew up with in the US. My oldest knew who the little dwarf with the red cap was in the malls in a nearby town, but her friends didn't.

I think I had to change media a couple of times in one lab as a favor to other techs, but I never worked the legal holidays in the US.

Not that I got any days off for Chanukah. mad.gif

My mother used to work at a bank that ran a 24/7 call centre. She (and the other Jews) used to volunteer to work Christmas; they got paid triple time. smile.gif

Christmas in the UK is absolutely huge--the country completely shuts on Xmas Day (no newspapers, no shops at all, no public transport) and most things are closed for Boxing Day (no shops, no railways [but the tube partly runs], still no papers!) You end up half celebrating it by default, because even if you don't have a tree and presents and so on, you've got nothing to do but sit home, eat, and watch the BBC.

i looooooove this about israel. when i made aliyah, it was right before chrismas and well, that was all i saw and heard....i love every year, not even thinking about it. it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wonderful.
Very Lucky Guy
I don't get it. Hearing about Kratzmach (I think that sounds hilarious) bothers me not in the least and I get a day off from work. What is the problem with that? Why is it somehow meritorious to work on 12/25?
Red Hare
I had a jewish boss who used to think it was..we worked every legal holiday except Labor Day b/c of the neighborhood parade (wasn't safe to go out).
