Full Version: Thank You All!

lyric
I just want to thank everyone who organised and turned up at Venezia's on Cony Island Avenue last night. Before I went to meet you all I was apprehensive at meeting a group of strangers; strangers who probably all knew each other but none of you knew me. Also I wondered if anyone would turn up. But we were 8 for dinner, you were all lovely; friendly, open, and welcoming. I hope you agree that the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable; I certainly felt it was. Thanks to Miri for sorting out the bill fairly, and I really appreciated Gretchen inviting me along to her kareoke evening in the city smile.gif

If anyone ever comes to London I'll be happy to return the welcome in any way I can.

Thank you thank you all again.
Cassandra
I'm glad you had a good time and I'm sorry I missed it, but you do realize you posted some real names there, right?
Elana
Ivanna, she posted only the screen names.

Thanks to Spot for editing out the real names I inadvertently put in my original post. Apologies - I was confused

I used to hang out on IRC.... and there, it was a kinda mark of being "in" if you used people's real names instead of their screen names, but in this case I didn't do it deliberately.

Can I just apologize to LovetoLaugh for not stopping to chat outside Eichelrs last night; I had my granddaughters with me as you saw and we were dashing to catch their bus back to Lakewood.

We only just made it!

They seem perfect for each other, and that will be one heck of a wild and crazy wedding!!!

For those of you who were at the meet: the most amazing thing has happened....remember me telling you about my foster son, the one I based "Daniel My Son" on, and how I hadn't seen him since he was 12 and was taken back from us by his mother?

Well...would you believe it (I can scarcely believe it myself...) today while I was on the homeward journey, he turned up at my house!!!!!!!!!!!! He came with a wife (not Jewish sadly), and little daughter, to seek out his roots. My cleaner took him round to my daughter next door who contacted all the siblings (well, the sisters, anyway, the brothers weren't available) who all dropped whatever they were doing and came straight over. My daughter also brought him to my husband's office to talk to him. He remembered little of his time with us (9.5 yrs!) but as the afternoon wore on he recalled more and more apparently. He has fallen out with his mother, and now believes that she has been lying to him about us. He never received any of the letters everyone sent him except the one I wrote to him telling him about my son's death in the car crash. His mother chose not to pass on the rest. He admitted to being very scared to come back; worried about the reaction he'd get but he was pleasantly surprised that everyone was so pleased to see him.

I still need to hear more details...what a shame I missed it all!

Wow! it's amazing that he came back. I hope he chooses to remain in contact with your family. I didn't know the book was based on a true story.

Lyric, it was great meeting you. And everyone else, (who I haven't seen since the last meet months ago).

well, the first part of the book was based on our experiences, the second half (when he came back) was fiction. I never expected him to come back under these circumstances though, although logically, he had little if any chance of it turning out any other way, circumstances being what they were for him.

It was great meeting you too, hope the karaoke went OK smile.gif

What does it mean when chicks "go to karaoke"??
I can't imagine they would actually get up and sing ohmy.gif , so is this like Simchas Torah dancing where they sit and make fun of the actual participants???

I called his cell today - we had a really nice talk and I am driving down to meet him on Wednesday. He lives about 1.5 hrs drive away from me.
