I'm under the impression he does so before, and they still stay and listen to the speech.

Don't misunderstand me - I appreciate the cost and effort that Torah institutions put into recording and redistributing audio and video of shiurim, and of the additional costs and efforts that would be involved in preparing a written transcript of same. But I would like to point out several advantages that the latter would have.

1) I read much faster than I listen.
2) It's sometimes hard to make out what a speaker is saying in a recording. If the person transcribing the recording can't figure out out either, they can ask the speaker.
3) They would show up in search engines, so I might come across Rav X's shiur while Googling for some words that appear in it.
