anyhoo the gist of the story seems to be that the JA split with NBN is over money, well no kidding, the JA is a bunch of beaurocrats who are angry that a bunch of upstarts come along and are doing a better job, cheaper and more publically. we all know that these guys live and die by their budgets and if someone comes along and says hey I can do your job better and save && and then proves it boy do they get p.o.ed

I think this is much less newsworthy than it seems. The Jewish Agency has always made the final decision about who can make Aliya. All Nefesh B'Nefesh did was to provide support and grant money. Nefesh B'Nefesh will continue doing what they do, and so will the Sochnut. Nefesh B'Nefesh has no interest in replacing the sochnut.
I think the point of the article was NOT about money, rather that NBN was sending over a disproprtionate amount of religious jews.

Of course, the Sochnut is concerned because NBN is doing a better job in North American that they are, but that's no surprise since NBN is basically paying people to make Aliya in USD, and the Sochnut pays people in NIS.
None of this will make a difference in the long run. NBN will still raise tremendous funds to help Olim, and the Sochnut will still do the same thing they have been doing all along.

funny when I made aliyah , I went thru the Misrad Hapnim and nothing to do with the Sochnut (even though I worked for them but that is another story, I mean how many chariedim do you know who worked for the Sochnut?)
