Would the membership be opposed to disabling storage of avatars on h.com. Meaning, instead of uploading an avatar to h.com, you would have to put the avatar on tinypic (or a similar site) and link to it in the avatar setup.
This would save h.com a few hits for each web page loaded.

One question, Milton: As of now, if I upload a pic through h.com as my avatar, I have the option of changing the dimensions, but if I use tinypic, it has to be 120x120. Is there a way to change that?

As for the proposal I am in favor, and I think I even recommended it awhile back....

Also does IPB cache static content that is found on almost every page? It seems not to as half the time buttons, or smileys won't load. They shouldn't have to because they should be in my local cache... It appears as if EVERY page reloads EVERY time which can't be good for the server....

I don’t mind doing it, but why is it that other, busier forums, with graphics and flashing moving signatures, load so much more quickly, with no 503’s?

Because H.com is on the same server (read souped up COMPUTER) with 300 other sites and it just can't handle the load. Imagine putting 5 tons of cement in the trunk of your car and trying to drive up a hill.... It can only do SO many things at once before it gets bogged down.....

But although it may slow to a crawl, the server shouldn't crash and it should almost NEVER give 503s, that is just poor management and configuration.

It is cheap incompetent webhosting at its finest....

Do a google search for "dreamhost sucks" and start reading....
