I'm going to be editing the .htaccess file to prevent hotlinking (For those of you who don't know, hotlinking is posting pictures of a hot person, such as myself, without permission). If you are having problems accessing anything on this site, please let me know.

Thanks.

Wow...that's been a problem?

What the heck are people hotlinking from here? The smile.gif's?

Maybe WE should hotlink all the static graphics files and templates to another installation of IBP Like frumspace.org wink3.gif

Do you mean that they do that to another site, or that we should do it to them? Evil, evil, evil (and smart) idea.

The problem is we can't do it to them if they are already doing it to us.

There's actually an option in IPB for another URL from which to serve static content.

So we could dump it all on tinypic?

And the truth is they would probably never know unless THEY are also using dreamhost....

One second...will this effect all the links people have to sites like http://photobucket.com/? because many people have things linked to there.

There are many "photos" of scanned pages of various seforim, sources etc. that people have linked to on sites like that, the reasom people did that was to SAVE room on THIS site...so again will it effect it? if yes I ask that you reconsider if not for my sake, at the very least for Melech's sake.

No, in fact it should have no effect at all from pages served by H.com, kal v'chomer those hosted off site...

It is only if some evil sinner on frumteens (or other assorted sites) tries to steal our bandwidth by linking to an H.com image...
Pinchas
Yeah, Yehudi, it will only affect outgoing files (people hotlinking here) not incoming files (sites we link here from). In fact all Avatars n have to be hotlinked from somewhere else to here.

Melech will be fine. And so will the news photo of the day.ow
Yehudi
Thanks KR and pinchas...in that case go right ahead and don't mind me (I can still link to threads in say an email right? ph34r.gif )
Milton
Forget it. I'm not going down the path of banning hotlinking - there's not enough bandwidth stealing going on. I did however put in some caching directives in the .htaccess and hopefully users will be seeing faster page loads on h.com.

Your Avatar is working again...oh, why did you stop using tinypic?
