My husband and i are needing to move, yesterday, b/c we're growing out and b/c our landlords are growing out...
problem is, weve been searching since may...
anyways, if anyone knows of any available apartments, preferably not in a building, i dont have our parents supporting us, and we arent millionaires...and the boards dont like people without a million dollars behind them.. anyways... up to 1300$ 1-2 bedrooms... between avenue I and avenue V, McDonald and Nostrand(its a big area), that i am able to get to the b68 with one or none transfers...
that would be great
and dont say the jewish press, or the luach, cuz ive tried a million and ten times...
and ive googled and done the daily news, the post, the new york times, and all other newspapers, as well as the torah times and the views and the weekly link...
any other ideas would be amazing
thanx

What about those buildings like by 18th, between I and the Dead End. I think they are somewhat reasonable.

boards? you are looking to rent, preferably in a private house, right? what do boards have to do with it then?
if you change your mind about buildings, i can give you the number of my management - they hav eat least 2 buildings in the heart of flatbush. their plus is that you can rent directly from them, without the real estate involvement (thus saving a few thousands $$)

basically our issue is that we dont have $250 to shell out to every apartment building that we'd need to give a non refundable application fee to just to TRY to get an apartment...
we need one that we can move in to... and not worry about bribing everyone involved, as i said we dont have much money but we do have good paying jobs which gets us through month to month.... which buildings do they have? and what do you mean by rent directly from them? (you still have to be approved by a board)
oh and guys that was really annoying, i saw 10 replies, and it was exciting, and then it was all a bunch of annoying hashkafah BS... sorry to be so blunt, but this is why all the originals stopped posting, one cant have a normal conversation without a bunch of garbage in between

i have no idea what you mean by the board. this is the 2nd building i'm renting in, and i didn't have to be approved by the board. as far as i understand it, the boards only exist in co-ops, if you buy an apt there. i don't even think a co-op board has to approve the prospective tenant if the owner wants to rent out his apt (but maybe that depends on what kind of co-op, etc) maybe the co-op buildings have appl. fees?
btw, you have to be careful with renting from co-ops, cause they don't have to abide by the city guidelines by how much to increase the rent every year (and most times don't give an option to renew for 2 years, only 1). i'm talking about regular, rent-stabilized buildings.
here is what i know about renting in buildings. you can either rent directly through the management or through the real estate. you probably understand what the latter entails - get in touch with a real estator, tell him what you are looking for, sit back and browse h.com while he calls you back asking when you want to come see the apts he found. when you agree to an apt, you have to pay the realtor 1.5-2 monthly rents.
when you go directly through the management, you get to keep that 1.5-2 rent amount. nice? the only problem is, not too many managements will rent it out directly, bypassing real estates (it must be some mafia connections - they are sharing the commissions or smth). when my mother was coming ot the US and i was looking for an apt, i went to the supers of every building in the area i wanted to stay, and was told there are no available apts there. desperate, i went to a real estate. magic! an available apt suddenly appeared in one of those buildings i previously visited.
with my present apt, i called the management (my friend lives in their other building inthe area) , they either had the apt available to show me right away or called me back when they did (which was definitely shortly, cause i had a relatively short engagement). i did fill out the appl for FREE, either once i saw the apt or before they called me back with the offer (don't remember). the appl was for them to have info on us (SS#s, providing income tax, etc)
they actually just rented out 2 apts in my building (one fo them is the next door - it's a pity; i would love to have frum neighbors)

Agreed.
As to the apartment issue, I had seen some signs up on my college bulletin board. I'll let you know if there's anything interesting next time I go into school. And I'll keep my eyes open.

not taking it in the end but its a decent apartment...
3rd floor of a private house east 14th btwn J&K washer/dryer heat included seperate thermostat, full bath with tub... and... technically two bedrooms...one of the rooms has a mock fireplace...really cute but we cant really afford it..
its 1300 including heat. but we'd have to pay g/e and that would add on too much.
going to look at another one tomorrow

In the house that I live in, there is a 1 bedroom apt on the first floor which has been empty for several months. The owners have put the property on the market, so they are not advertising the apt. I can find out if they would be interested in a new tenant and how that would work if/when the property is sold.

a small suggestion, if i may. pay attention to the floors, if they are parquet (sp?). polish them if they haven't been in some time. you definitely won't be able to do it once you move the furniture in (read: basically for the duration of your stay there), but polished floors make such a difference in the apartment!!!
this, too, shall pass, and you'll soon be living in a nice apt

Oct 28 2007, 08:35 PM
b'H everything is falling in to place. the floors are hard wood, and theyve just been redone. a good friend of mine's father is a painter, and hes doing our WHOLE apartment (with all our crazy requests), 6 different rooms/colors and taking down the wall paper in the bathroom and redoing it, all for 500$. its awesome
anyways yea
thank you
