Kalashnikover_Rebbe
Why would anyone quote the gemara when there is a perfectly good story from R Levi Yitzchak or Berdichev on this subject rolleyes.gif
Menachem E

Then maybe you should have said so.

For OP, your friendly Jewish bookseller should carry this: http://www.ou.org/publications/kaplan.html#tefillin

Basically, the same way the Jews wear tefillin to remind them about their love for Hashem, Hashem wears tefillin to remind him of his love for the Jews. That's why the "parshiyos" are all in praise of the Jews. It just means that he holds them near and dear.

Of course, this is just replacing one anthropomorphism with another, but זו היא דרכה של תורה

But does any mefaresh explain this as G-d having any "dmut haguf?"
I heard a shiur by a rabbi who seemed to have implied that some learn this G'mara literally?

G-d wears the spiritual equivalent of our physical tfilin. (with something like ashrecha yisrael mi kamocha)

At it's also true that Moshe Rabbeinu was 20 amot tall. The question I'm asking is if it's literally true. When I asked if it's possible that it's literally true that God physically wears tefillin, you balked, even though we both agree it's true that He wears tefillin. Presumably that aggada is meant to impart a didactic lesson. I'm asking if that's the only aggada that isn't literally true but rather is meant to impart a didactic lesson.

That's basically what I'm asking.
IDK how the understand any of this; why did chazal davka use physical features to describe G-d's tefillin- as opposed to just say what doodlehead or gabbe said?

Most people seem to accept Rambam's words: "ein Lo dmut haguf and eno guf."- is there even any source before Rambam that states this?

I learned that he was literally 10 feet tall. I never (until now) came accross that the interpretation you mentioned is possible; wow, I really can't believe that it never came to mind. Okay, don't mind me.

Is there any source for that?

It is crazy that one would teach this. Not only that, but it is also pointless. What lesson did the knowledge of Moshe's physical height impart on you? That God loves really tall people?

There are schools in EY that teach gemara to women, and there are people who encourage their daughters to learn gemara, and I happened to have a father who was like that.

btw, that's exactly the point I was trying to make in my post, and I don't think I'm unique. I'm sure some other women in these forums have learned gemara.
