crossdressing or not?
Goldfish
In Scotland and Scotland-related events, no. Everywhere else, yes. Especially if you're not actually Scottish. Then you're practically not even entitled to wear a kilt because the pattern's your clan's tartan.

when i was once wearing my school uniform, some Scottish guy asked me what kilt pattern it was.

Is Berbery a scottish clan?

Interesting question.

QUOTE
The trench, black, white and red pattern known as novacheck or the 'Burberry check' was first used as a lining for their trenchcoat in 1924. It wasn't until as late as 1967 that the Burberry Check, now a registered trademark, was widely used on its own for items including umbrellas, scarves and luggage.

So it's not.

NOT, I would SO wear a kilt if I could get away with it....

the tartans are usually darker colours, featuring greens and reds and black and navy, sometimes with a bit of mustardy yellow. eg blackwatch is black, green and blue. see http://www.tartans.scotland.net/reading_ta...ckwatch.cfm.htm

This is so disturbing on so many levels.

You do understand that kilts are profoundly non-Jewish, right? I personally don't have a problem with that but I would think you would.

And Moshe Rabbeinu wore a suit and tie with an Italian hat.....

Duh.

You know I don't have a problem with that, but you're the one obsessed with "authentic" Jewish clothing.

Why would you want to wear a kilt, BTW?

Pants are so constricting.... I would never wear them if I didn't have to, although the pockets are convenient...

And I just think they are cool, and why are they any less authentic than a 12th century polish nobility robe and a Rabbit fur hat???

Who are you and what have you done with K-Rebbe?

I know what you can do! Join a bagpiping band and then it will be okay for you to wear a kilt because it's for parnassah.

I just had a LONG conversation with someone I haven't spoken to in quite some time... They have a profound effect on my personality for reasons I have yet to even begin to fathom....

But al kol panim, I wear the costume because NOW it is associated with Jews, and that is what my grandparents in Europe surely wore. But I never claimed it was "authentically Jewish", I don't think there IS such a thing, just like I don't think there is inherently Jewish music....

I've always wanted to learn the bagpipes... I guess I have always had a bit of a Scotch fetish.....

Associated with Ashkenazic Jews.

Associated with Ashkenazic Jews.

What I meant is that when people see a bekeshe and streimel they think "Jew" not "18th century Polish noble"....
And I AM an Ashkenazic Jew, why should I be ashamed of that? No one is asking YOU to dress that way.....
