What do you think of them?

I have a hard time matching them with shoes...
only certain black shoes go with black tights. Oh, and boots too. Anything else?

Try wearing them with colorful socks to provide a barrier between the tights and the shoes, you'll find you can get away with a lot more shoe-wise.

You mean wear pink socks on top of black tights- and then wear 'em with a pair of different colored flats?
Cassandra
I don't like black tights. My feet aren't black and I think it looks funny (though I do like the look in some cases). That being said I almost wore a pair of black tights today but couldn't because they no longer work with my very expensive shoes that I bought last year that now resemble orthopedic shoes as my feet have shrunk slightly. Silly me for thinking I'd get good use out of those shoes!

When I was in high school I always wore sheer knee-highs (of whatever color, black, blue, etc.). In sem there was a girl who wore thick black stockings with black shoes. I'd never seen such a thing before and thought they looked weird. But when I got back to America I adopted them -- I discovered that they cost twice as much as sheer stockings but they last ten times as long and hardly ever get runs. I don't care about fashion. I think they look fine.

I don't care about fashion either, and I wear tights because they are so much more comfortable than pantyhose, and they last longer. I always seem to run my hose in one wearing.
Elana
women/girls who wear opaque knee-highs/trouser socks in winter scare me.

i wear black tights in winter all the time (warmer than sheer stockings). but then i usually already wear boots, so no problem with maching to the shoes

same here, although I got 3 pairs of stockings for 5 shek each, which is an AWESOME price, and they lasted an insanely long time. I want it to get cooler outside here so that I can start wearing my black tights already!!

Yup. So if you have a pair of charcoal gray shoes, it might look weird if they were up against the black tights, but with a pair of socks between, it would look fine. This also works if you have a pair of black shoes which don't match the black of the tights.

I love my opaque black tights. They last much, much longer than pantyhose (I get runs in pantyhose practically every time I wear them, it's futile), keep you warmer, and are more comfy. I wear them just about every day in the winter.

I never considered that black tights look weird with black flats. I do this all the time. If they are clashing shades of black, it's not the greatest, but I'm not a fashion maven.

tights vs pantyhose? I always thought it was just a different lashon?

I think pantyhose are thin and sheer, while tights are thick and opaque, like leggings.

I have heard the terms used interchangeably, but for the purposes of this thread, I would say that you don't really ever see nude "tights"-- even the thick denier ones are still considered pantyhose.

I'm also a black tight devotee, wear 'em from October through April. Like others said, they are way more comfy, warm, and durable than pantyhose. Sometimes they come in odd shades, but check them against black shoes in the store, or find a brand with a good shade and stick to it. Even if they do somewhat clash with your shoes, what are the odds of anyone looking at the shoe/tights contrast so close-up that they'd be able to tell?I'm also a black tight devotee, wear 'em from October through April. is it only me who thinks it's a bit weird to wear socks on tops of tights, with regular shoes? unsure.gif

It sounds like what people wore to aerobics classes in the 80s.

lol

no worries

I actually wear socks over tights only with a. sneakers, b. boots, c. mary jane type shoes that are slightly too loose to wear with just tights.

The only thing they don't match with is pastel suits, in my opinion.

In the UK they're all called tights. Opaque tights, thin tights etc. Pantyhose is not an English expression.
LoveToLaugh
I don't like wearing tights and try to avoid it whenever I can. Tights are definitely better than pantyhose though. But leggings is the best for me if I can get away with it. With shorter skirts, it's black tights and black shoes.

I personally hate sheer stockings and I've never worn them on a regular basis.

Ditto.
If I were black tights, then boots or black shoes are part of the combo.
U Tarzan me Jane
black rights go with everything.

But I do wonder about the girls who wear short skirts, and tall boots without socks---I think that is a silly look.

BY lashon lesson: Nude sheer is called stockings. Black thick is called tights. No such thing as pantyhose anymore. Black sheer is called nothing because no girl would be caught dead in it nowadays. smile.gif

Boots and flats, Ok, as long as they go with the type of colours, but with heels I really don't understand, Maybe, black sheer (which have been said not to exist) awith heels are ok, but to me, heels mean nude pantyhose/ sheer stockings/whatever.

Why? So with nude/skin colour pantyhose/ sheer stockings/whatever also silly?
BTW, those people do wear socks with their boots, just not ones you an see.

Whew, I'm not alone.

Of course, I'm not even going to mention what I'm wearing today since I noticed it didn't even get mentioned as a hosiery option.
