Which earbuds are recommended for using on the subway so as to not only listen to Torah but also block out background noise from the train and from some of the other riders?

I can tell you which ones not to get...don't get skullcandies that look like these. I had them and the stupid cord is ripped inside so I can't hear out of the left one unless the wire is exactly in the right position. It's VERY frustrating. I know that sunheiser buds are insanely good (my dad and brother both have those) but they're also quite expensive, so it also depends on how much you're willing to spend.

the shure e2's are nice. About 50 bux. They do take some getting used to as they go into your ear. I am still not comfortable with them but they block outside noise and the sound quality is good. I prefer over the ear headphones.

Sennheiser in ear buds! Hands down. They are great. In fact, I know that when I wear them at night, I have to make sure my husband will wake up to sonny if he cries, as I don't hear a thing.

While not 'earbuds' per se, Sony MDR-V300 Studio Monitor Series Headphones

(or these)

I don't have the above exact models, but they're extremely comfortable and block out noise well.

Whatever you do end up choosing, check with cnet to see how they fared.

I ordered a pair of Sennheiser CX300-B's. I look forward to receiving them.

Thanks.
