Trying to log in to FTP.
I keep getting this message

Anyone know why? FTP Access is enabled. What else to check off on mac prefs (in internet >sharing)
(in addition, I have Safari open initially, type in the url but Firefox pops up even though it was closed..and afaik, it's not set to be my main browser)

Thanks.

It means the server has a problem with passive mode. Either try to disable passive mode, or debug it manually with a telnet session in the following manner :

telnet my.server.com 21
USER mymotherslogin
331 Password required for mymotherslogin.
PASS mysecretpassword
230 User mymotherslogin logged in.
PASV

Now see what happends.

What FTP program are you using? I have recently walked about 25 people with switching off passive mode...Firefox FTP? Did you find the setting?
(in some it's a matter of checking/not checking pasv, other times you have to check active mode)

That usually won't work if you are behind a router/firewall...

And what kind of ancient server doesn't do passive mode?? A Commodore 64???

No, a server with a makeshift firewall while the real one gets fixed dry.gif

Not a program. It's a company's website I need to upload to (i.e. ftp.abc123.com)

I meant a wireless router or something, I don't think most of them will allow active FTP unless the appropriate incoming port is open and routed... Even if it does the local firewall on the computer will probably block it.

Use a real ftp client, like ftp or something similar and disable PASV.
