FYI
My daughter has beautiful soft curls.
When she is straight from the bath and it's combed back nicely it looks beautiful.
Otherwise, it's just HAIR! everywhere.

I can't decide if I should cut it or not. Would cutting it make it easier or worse?

Right now, she usually just has pig tails as that's the easiest way to combine the hair together and keep it out of her face.

Any other ideas of what I can do with it?

Cutting it will probably make it curlier. Short and curly. Other than a headband, not much you can do with it.
Pigtails are cute and possibly your best bet.

Q- you said she has "just hair! everywhere"- do you brush her hair out with a brush?

Even a headband doesn't help much, although she loves headbands and often makes me put one in (unless she wants clips...she's very picky about what goes in her hair)

When I do it's fairly decent. They're soft curls, so usually 'spring back' into place. However, if they were in pigtails for hours and now they come out, it starts going everywhere.

If you let it grow longer, they might get tamer.
Try using a mild leave-in conditioner.
Never brush when hair is dry.
What's wrong with pigtails/braids?

For a time when I was little, my hair was Shirley Temple short- corkscrew curls popping out of my head. I hate those pictures.

they actually get more curly with time. When she was born, I thought she had straight hair.
I have to so that she doesn't have bumps in her pigtails. (although I often wet the brush first)
Nothing as a 2-year old...but as an 8 year old??? What will I do with this?

Also, when do I need to cut it?

Her hair will probably change by the time she's 8 years old, so worry about that later. Besides, at 8 years old I knew how to make my own pony tails.

Yup. That is very important!

FYI, check out curlykids.com for information about how to handle her hair. Its part of http://www.naturallycurly.com and they know what they are talking about!
Once you learn how to take care of it, it should get more manageable.

You could try braiding it- that will at least keep the curls in place.

Both my sisters have curls. My youngest sister has looser, soft curls. They've never been a problem since they're not frizzy. The older of the two has tight, kinky curls that are impossible to style. My advice on that one would be to just keep it short.

And she will want to burn her baby pictures when she's older.

A neighbor of mine has a kid who's nw about 9 and has been using 'hair milk' since she's was 2-ish. I'm pretty sure this is the link. I used to run a small amount through her hair after the bath (short, tightish curls on her head) and it kept it in control without weighing it down (you couldn't even feel it after).

Guess it's like the hair cream we adults use only gentler..wonder if J&J (who make No More TanglesŪ) have something like cream/milk for kids..?

If you do opt for a cream/spray try perusing the 'ethnic' section of the hair aisle and see what they have for less kinky hair so it doesn't gook up DH's hair.

I agree. Unless they're really thin curls, short is not the way to go. Longer and pulled back might be your only option.

I second the cream. Look for leave-in conditioners.
I have a neice with that kind of hair and the best thing is to brush it and put it in tight pigtails right after her bath, and by morning you don't need to brush it again.
