There's no choice for: it depends on how large the check is and on what type of item. I might like houndstooth better on a scarf than a skirt.

I just saw a Houndstooth coat on an NBC feature guest starring the TLC's What Not To Wear chick. Apparently, it's very in this winter and the jacket was actually extremely cute. I think particularly with an accent item like a scarf, you can't go wrong (besides, scarves sport every possible color pattern and combination known to man).
