Apparently, short jackets, puffy down coats, and wool are "in" this season. This translates into people NOT carrying the full-length seude coat I want. And I don't want to spend the $2k they're asking for this coat. Anyone know where I could find something similar (full-length suede of whatever color, fur or shearling trim, hooded) in a retail store (I don't order coats online as size varies wildly). Ideally in the few hundred dollars range. It doesn't have to be real suede/fur/shearling, but it needs to look like the taiwanese kids who sewed it weren't blind. Thanks. sunny.gif

Can it be made out of bunnies??? (You obviously have no issues with raccoon)

All the ones I see are over 1K.

OK. Faux-suede is a LOT cheaper. Now I need to find somewhere that has a retail store smile.gif

"Burlington" in Manhattan (23th St. & 6th Ave. - a stop on the F train) carries a tremendous variety of coats at very good prices. You can call them and ask if they have it.

or check out their website to get an idea.

SHuli, if you wait till after christmas/new year, you'll be able to get a real one for a fraction of that cost wink.gif (probably at macy's - we bought my mother a full length beautiful leather coat for cheap like that)

(I checked the Burlington website. Didn't find it.)

I also checked Macy's, JC Penney, Nordstrom, Loehmann.
Land's End for fun even though I don't think they have a retail store. Theirs was only $1800.

I saw a similar coat at macys but they only had one left and I doubt it's still there and I also doubt that you would come to Monsey to get it and I also don't know the price.

Land's End is sold in Sears.

Shuli, what about a large dept stores where they don’t only have a few trendy items? I just went to Macy’s and Lord & Taylor and I only go a fw times a year, I would have looked for you.

I can check out Century 21 for you next week.

I would also suggest the Burlington Coat Factory. I understand that you didn't find what you wanted on their web site, but I suspect that they have a much wider selection in the store than online. They tend to have a large selection and competitive prices. I bought my coat and Lord and Taylor in Manhattan a few years ago and think they also have a pretty large selection and at this time of the year I expect many of them would be on sale.

I was there the other day...they didn't even carry the style (only long wool and puffy coats, or trenchcoats).

I tried Century 21, but if you're going anyways, keep your eyes peeled. smile.gif

Has anyone tried those small leather-and-fur-coats-only shops that they have midtown-ish?

Ebay is your friend.Link

I thought you might like this. It comes in two colors, camel and chocolate brown and the price seems quite reasonable. I know that the clothes from Chadwick's are of good quality and they will accept returns. I realize that you wanted to find something in a store, but in case you are unable to find what you want I thought this might be an option to consider.

Shuli, do you only want a real Shearling coat?

I see Appleseeds has one in their catalog that's under $200, but it's not real.

No, it doesn't have to be real, but it should ideally not look cheap. There's a place on 29th and 7th in the city that does wholesale shearling; I'm thinking of trying them since the department stores aren't really carrying anything. I thought long shearling coats were supposed to be classic and timeless?? unsure.gif
Penina
L.L. Bean has some:

Sorry, no stores in the NY area but they tend to be somewhat true to size, if not slightly generous and they have free shipping. I usually love their stuff.

Yep LL Bean has great stuff like Penina said..also, I saw a real shearling in J. Jill a few years back. It was about $600..obv. not there anymore (it was a gorgeous chocolate brown) but they're good to keep an eye on. They also have retail stores in many malls.

Red Envelope may carry too.
