One of my favorite books. The new illustrated version is on my wish list.

I’m gonna request it from the librarsy.

I love that book! The ending just floored me! I'm going to name my next cat Richard Parker (even if it's a girl).
I can't wait to see the movie either, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they don't ruin it.

I'll lead the boycott if it does. Do you have any comments about the interview?

The imagery is amazing.

I liked the way Yann Martel discussed the fact that people assume that animals hate being zoos. To them, that's their home and where they feel safe. They don't feel as if they were imprisoned. (As long as the facilities are spacious and well-maintained. There are some pretty bad zoos out there.) Even in the wild, animals are sometimes fenced in to protect them from hunters and poachers. People tend to anthropomorphize animals way too much, especially those who think they can "talk" to animals the way they talk to people. I like the way Yann takes a common-sense approach to the subject.

Are you over the shock yet?

A friend and I sat in BAM today devouring the illustrated version. The brushstrokes are bold and exquisite. The vibrant colors remind me of the primavista art so associated with indigenous people of nicaragua and other central/south American countries. Beautiful.
