Nature -- sometimes sears a Sapling --
Sometimes -- scalps a Tree --
Her Green People recollect it
When they do not die --

Fainter Leaves -- to Further Seasons --
Dumbly testify --
We -- who have the Souls --
Die oftener -- Not so vitally --

In Palm Springs, CA. I have quite a few fabulous poses from these hummingbirds.
Pure Myrrh
WOW! To be sure, they are all beautiful, but the first photo is astounding!

My S2 IS. I don't have a DSLR. The settings are my usual setting - pretty simple. Foliage, and macro flower.
TheDuncePolice

The background was not altered at all. This photo is untouched (as are all the others).

The one in post #8 reminds me of coral..(brain too), but mimicked in nature it's coral. Very nice!

What was the sunflower shot against? How close were you to it?
(I was just abt. to ask if it was on a tripod..then realized the last 2 letters of the model #..sigh..image stabilizers weren't around when I got mine.. Is it applied to every picture or you have the choice to turn it on? Does it help in low light, no flash situations?)

It was shot against the sky, believe it or not. And the weird thing is, that it wasn't a whitish sky at all. I'll post the picture shot right after this one.

Oh, and this was taken from approx. 10 feet lower than the actual flower.
TheDuncePolice
Oh, and I'm not sure about the settings. Lol. I think it does it automatically.
This is the next photo, shot right after the previous sunflower pic. Look at the difference in color.
And here's one more for now.
bigtoe
The cattail looking things look almost magical!
Ahavati
You have the gift as well as the talent/skill to nurture it to fruition.

Beautifully done.
Elana
wow, stunning!!!

how come there is this difference in the sky background? why/how did it happen?

i also love taking nature pictures, but i hav ea regular canon digital camera and don't even know all the settings there (i pretty much only use "moving objects" when photographing my daughter laugh.gif )
TheDuncePolice
Thank yous. I enjoy photography immensely and love to share it with others.

Indulge me
This one's a hummingbird, view large.

You should make an online galley of your work. Offer prints for sale, etc. Keep on snapping!
Elana
i agree with PM!!!

I thought of doing it. What would be the best way to do it?

That's just the way the camera's sensor 'read' the sky..it usually happens when it's stopped up to a higher number. It was prob. set on f/2 as opposed to f/5.8. Also the smaller the #, the less depth of field you get, so it 'blew out' the background color and made it seem white.

To be sure, I didn't change any settings between the two shots. In fact, they were both shot at 6:21.

Right, you said it was set to automatic.

No, the time, shot in the same minute, a few seconds apart.

More like exposure time and shutter speed.

And therefore? Auto settings are hardly constant.

exposure time?? the bird would be a blur if it was set too slow. Right, faster shutter speed:smaller f-stop (as I mentioned above)

QUOTE

If it's left at automatic, it tries to gauge by itself; then if the meter reading was taken off the darker part of the flower or grass, it'd make up for what it thought would be an under-exposed pic and cause the highlights to blow out.

Toey, I checked out Shutterbug and am not impressed with their (confusing) gallery and rating system as well as lack of amount of downloads.

Anyone have any ideas how to take up PM's suggestion?

I’m referring specifically to the sky color difference in the Sunflower shots.

I personally use PictureTrail because of its simple layout. It's not free but it's very reasonable. I maintain two sites for roughly 20.00 a year. Of course I don't sell so there isn't any personal contact information or prices listed. But others I know do and are pleased with it.

Thanks, I'll check it out.
