First post!

I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks and I don't know what I want to wear. I was thinking of getting a tea-length taffeta skirt (maybe a dark purple? I don't usually wear light colors...) and pairing it with a simple top. I don't think I should wear all black to a wedding but I'm totally at a loss as to what a good outfit would be.

Any ideas? What would you wear? smile.gif Thanks!

I wear a regular Shabbos suit. Unless I'm good friends/related to the chatan/kallah and then I wear something fancier.

You wear shabbos suits regularly for shabbos?

No. I've gotten heavily into robes lately. But I got a bunch of modern awesome new suits for this past Sukkos.

All black. Then you'll match everyone. rolleyes.gif
Though lately black and white seems to be very "in".

What got you, the non-"Modern" aspect?

Watch out. Your date might dump you if he finds out. "Nobody MO/Centrist wears Shabbos suits for Shabbos."

Is the wedding in the NY region?
I think your outfit sounds perfect.

Pardon? They most certainly do.

Some people don't seem to think so.

I don't know why "some people" would they'd think that but you can go to my shul and see plenty of women wearing suits. Not 100%, but that's because we're not conformist that way.

That's up to Lauren. I don't think it's her thing, but she doesn't limit herself. If it looks good, she'll wear it.

But I wasn't talking about the MO in general. I was talking about Goldfish. I was surprised she wears shabbos suits regularly. I see I was wrong.

I used to always wear suits and was appalled when I first learned that people wore robes on Shabbos. But now I've been converted to the Dark Side I'm just too lazy to wear suits.

Who goes to shul in robes?

I usually wear a robe Friday night and a suit Shabbos day, even when I'm not going out. I just don't like how it feels to be in a robe all day.

The only people I see wearing suits on Shabbos are:
a) older than me (40's +)
b) frummies that aren't Lubavitch

welcome and mazal tov on the first post! sunny.gif

i love those long taffeta skirts, but i personally wouldn't wear them just to any wedding. to a good friend/family member, maybe, but not to any wedding. how simple is the top? i realize, you can't have anything "wow", cause it'll be too much with such skirt, but it still has to be dressy enough to look good with this skirt

I wasn't going to get a long taffeta skirt, just one that's past the knees. Like a party skirt!Do you have any suggestions as to what to wear? I don't want to overdress, but I don't want to look like a slob either.
Elana
oh, i thought a tea length is a long skirt.
re the top - i'm not sure; those wrap blouses will probably be too much? do you have time to check out the jewish (cuase i remember seeing these styles there) stores and see what they offer? then you can decide if you have similar tops
calvinandhobbes
I think that you'll be fine. Fancy skirts don't need fancy tops, then it looks like you're trying too hard and you might as well wear a gown.

Tea-length with a waist jacket is always lovely.

Hm, I guess that's the smart thing to do. Those shops are always so expensive though.

It's hard to find a skirt that's cute, though. Hence my issue.

It's true I'm over 40, but then again, I dress well for work every single day! I don't want to wear a work outfit for Shabbos !!!!
