I have a program that uses VPN. It logs me out every 5 minutes which is very annoying. It's probably a router/firewall/modem issue. I couldn't find a setting on my router that looked like it would help. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

if you are connecting to a Windows Server make sure that its not terminating your session after being idle for 5 minutes.

It's usually called "keepalive" or something to that tune.

I'm not using windows server.

where would I find the "keepalive" setting?

You know how to get into your router? Probably 192.168.1.1 in the browser...under PPPoE should be a keepalive option.
(Guessing here...I am familiar with a different series of Linksys routers)

PPPoE isnt a VPN protocol.

Ok. I should exit this conversation then.
I was only aware of 2 keepalives on the routers I have worked with. (The second is NAT)
I really don't know about VPN.
Sorry!

Check the VPN software to see if there is a keepalive checkbox or something that will maintain the connection.

Also, does the VPN bounce you off after 5 minutes of inactivity or are you disconnected even while actively using the VPN connection?

I'm not sure if I have VPN software. I think it's all bundled into a larger program. I open the VPN connection, then I click on a .bat file and then I open the main program (sort of an accounting program, but way more) When I'm thrown off I still says I'm connected but nothing works. I have to manually disconnect, reconnect and then click on the .bat file again to get the program to work.

I need more information to diagnose the problem. Can you post the contents of the .bat file if it doesn't contain any passwords?
