Yellow gold stands out more. This can be a plus or a minus.

Different colored gems look better/different with each.

White gold looks similar to silver or platinum, yellow gold is always recognized as being gold.

Two toned can be nice.

what's up with you and jewelry today?

i think it's a combination of personal preference, what's currently in style and matching with other pieces.

OK, what's currently in style? As for matching with other pieces, does that mean a female will have two lines of jewelry, and wear the white with white and the yellow with yellow?

the one about "I have enough jewelry" isn't really about jewelry - it's about saying one thing but meaning something else. that's why it's not in the fashion forum.

i'm not the best person to ask, but i think, still white gold.

i dont' know what others do, but i don't like seeing a white gold necklace with a yellow gold bracelet (engagement and wedding rings are excluded from this rule). two-tone jewelry are good pieces to have to match everything (took me a long time to like their looks, just as it took me a long time to start liking white gold - looked too silvery to me in the beginning. but then again, when i came ot the US, yellow gold looked fake to me, as i was used to different karat gold)

or so you think wink.gif but it still used jewelry as example, and that thread made it a total of 3 for the first 6 threads i saw on h.com today tongue.gif

yeah, i go for the matchy match look. yellow gold is always in style.

I think white looks better, giving a "cleaner" look. But, it gets cruddy looking real quick if you don't keep getting it polished and re-enameled (or whatever the term is). If I could do things over, I would go with yellow gold.

Yellow gold doesn't suit everyone, imo.

I like yellow gold better, I find the color "warmer". I don't like the look of platinum or white gold engagement rings, it looks very "icy" to me.

To me white gold is pretty much the same thing as silver.

That's exactly why I like white gold better. smile.gif

I can't wear white gold at all. I'm allergic to the nickel content. The same can be said for most yellow gold. Anything under 18 carats is guaranteed to leave a burn. Even with 18 and 24 carat gold, I still have to be careful. That said, I wear mainly stainless steel or titanium with gold inserts. My watch and bracelet are both made that way. It also works well with my complexion (and complexion can, at times, be a deciding factor!). Without the gold accents (or at least some sort of deep and complex pattern) any silver-coloured metal is going to look rotten against my skin. I do have a gold necklace, and the cufflinks I wear the most often are silver - but they never actually touch my skin and are offset by my other jewelry.

On the contrary, yellow gold is streaming back into style and I predict white gold will be on its way out shortly.

I figure if you are going to wear white gold jewelry why not just wear silver jewelry?
It looks the same and is less expensive.

Get with the times, K. Yellow gold is like totally back.

Personally, I've always liked silver (and others: beaded, leather, cord, crystal)

exactly my thoughts some time ago. the only thing is, if it's something fancy and expensive, with diamonds, then you know it's white gold and not silver.

and i also feel that yellow gold is coming back

Silver that has not been plated tarnishes and turns black, White gold does not.

I personally can only wear gold earrings, I get horrible reactions from silver, so being cheaper is really not a factor for me. I prefer the look of white gold with diamonds, pearls, and all colored stones. I think it is a classier look.

Now silver that has been rhodium plated, can easily pass for white gold, whereas plain silver does not. I have quite a few plated pieces, that pass as gold on a regular basis. No one needs to know that I paid less then 100.00 for them. If you act like its real, people will assume it is.

Then you might as well wear cubic zirconia instead of diamonds.

sure, but only if the pieces are very small, otherwise you do see the difference and it does look cheap. i have a few pieces like that (silver with cz) - earrings (can't wear it for more than an hour because of the same problem as UTMJ has) and pendants.

So too with silver instead of white gold.

When I had my colors done as a teen I was specifically told based on my skin tone not to wear yellow gold and that white gold, silver and platinum were the best for me. I happen to agree, and therefore never wear the items I have that are yellow gold. Of course it only really makes a difference if the jewelry is near your face, but if you are wearing multiple pieces they really ought to go together. That said, I personally think that white gold and platinum look the nicest anyway.

I've been struggling with that for some time. I have a really hard time with the concept of CZs (and fake jewelry in general, unless it's obviously fake, like Michal Negrin), and I don't quite understand why it matters so much.

You've mentioned this before. I would love to get this done! Have you seen it done other places besides for that original Colours place?

Not necessarily. My diamond ring is set in platinum, and it scratches much faster than gold, yellow or white. I had to have my ring professionally polished (although it is after a few years) while my white-gold wedding ring (which I got same time, practically) still shines like new.
