This might surprise you but I'm not really the heavy metal type.

But I came across this song and it has a really catchy tune. And the lyrics seem very brilliant except they don't make any sense at all. I mean the whole song is shver. The "rain" in the reisha ("life is only rain") is a total stierah with the "rain" in the seifa ("waiting for the rain to fall"). I mean if his life is only rain why would he be waiting for the rain to fall? Now you tynah that there are two separate people speaking in the reisha and the seifa (i.e. one is the guy and one is the girl) fine - that could make sense. But it wouldn't fit in to the last stanza not to mention the whole refrain becomes very ambiguous. Can anyone explain where I am misunderstanding this song?

Or maybe, just perhaps, heavy metal just isn't supposed to be analyzed?

Anyway lyrics follow:

Stratovarius - 4000 rainy nights

These empty days are filling me with pain
After I left it seems my life is only rain
My heart is longing to the better times
When everything was still so fine

I wonder why it happens so fast
You give your heart away knowing it might not last
I’m still here waiting for the rain to fall
And to see you once again

4000 Rainy Nights
4000 Nights I’d be with you
4000 Rainy Nights with you

I keep your memory in my heart
You give me hope when everything is so dark
That thing nobody can take away
Forever in me

4000 Rainy…

<END LYRICS>

And if you are brave you could watch it here. There is no kol Ishah to worry about though gals should be warned a drummer does take his shirt off (though tattoos cover him anyway).

You are kidding about not understanding them, right?

You should listen to Metallica's Nothing Else Matters and The Unforgiven.

Oh I see what you are saying! You are saying rain is something that could be both bad and good! As we pray for rain l'brocha v'lo l'klallah! Very good. Clever. That also explains the rainy nights in the refrain.

Still, what is the significance of the number 4000?

Actually, I wasn't saying anything. I was just asking if you were kidding.

I don't know. I've never researched the song.
