Yahoo! Mail when there's GMail?

I'm trying to understand because, since I started using GMail I have enjoyed it immensely more than Yahoo! Mail.

Because some people dont want to have to tell thousands of people to change their address books.

Yeah, that's the only reason I could think of.
Though I do see people with not-that-many contacts still using Yahoo! Mail.

Even a few contacts can be a hassle.

Yeah, but it's worth it. Especially if you need a Google account anyway for other Google services and Blogger.
batya_d
it's too much of a pain to inform all my contacts of the change. Also, yahoo now has unlimited storage space for old emails, so it's not bad.

Which is why I ended up with 9 yahoo accounts, 3 gmails and 2 aols. rolleyes.gif

1. No folders in gmail
2. The weird thing it does in gmail with conversations

I have to open a new account now and I'm thinking of doing yahoo again, even though they lost my old account. I need the folders.

Yeah, it's really annoying. You can't delete one e-mail without deleting all the rest in the "conversation."

True. Guess now with Yahoo! getting all the things that GMail has there's starting to be less of a difference.

Didn't notice those two, as I download all my mail. But true.
Although you get used to the conversations thing, and start to even like it, and personally I don't have time for folders (I just search) but each to their own.

Yeah, didn't either notice that.
ETA: Guess KReb debunked that. Am too lazy to check on my own.

So the next question is, why would anyone use, on their own computers, web-based mail (ie without downloading) and have to deal with all the weird stuff?
(I actually left Yahoo! Mail because I couldn't get it to work with my Mail app.)

Labels are identical in functionality to folders.

I don't know much about gmail. So even if they're identical in functionality, are they the same in neatness?

I don't understand the question.

You say that labels serve the same purpose as folders. But how does that work? When you go to the inbox, are all the emails still there, just labeled? Because I like the neatness of folders, that everything is neatly stored away (in theory rolleyes.gif).
Milton
In this theoretical example, a user is signed up to a mailing list. He can create a filter in gmail to automagically label any email from the mailing list and archive it to a folder. So the email never appears in his inbox, just in the label.
Or if the emails are in the inbox and labeled, he can just click archive and the labeled emails will disappear from his inbox but still be accessible through the label.

Does that answer your question?

not true. labels and then archive and then it goes into a folder and out of your inbox.

I rarely if ever check my accounts other then work and gmail. My secondary gmail account is forwarded to my main one, so anytime I get an e-mail there I know about it. But that's it. My yahoo account I guess gets checked every day cuz I sign into yahoo messenger and i think it tells you if you have an e-mail...??

It's an app that displays your e-mail by downloading it so that you don't have to go through a web browser to get to it.
