JK Rowling drops hints of possible eighth Harry Potter book

By RHODRI PHILLIPS -

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has strongly hinted for the first time that she could write an eighth book in the series.

Rowling, 42, admits she has 'weak moments' when she feels she will pen another novel about the boy wizard.

Seriously. This doesn't surprise me at all, she's like a mercenary writer for hire, she'll go where the $$$$ is, and an 8th HP would certainly make her lots more.
Canon is what appears in the book. Anything she says now, IMO, and in many others in the fandom, is maybe a step up from fanon- but canon it ain't.

Stupid stupid stupid. Just leave it be. It ended well, we know what happened to everyone, just leave it!!

IIRC, she's richer then the queen. So unless she's blowing billions a day, she doesn't need to write another book.
But besides for that, if she writes another book after everything is all finished, it doesn't seem like it will be her actual thoughts, it will be things that fans wish would happen.

So you hate her because she has more money than you?

I don't 'hate' her, but I think a certain element of, for lack of a better word, greed, entered her writing around the 4th book- which was basically around when the movies started being filmed. Aside from the series going in a different direction at that point (compare the first 3 books to the last 4), it seemed that she was almost writing with a transfer to film in mind- like what would look good.
Also, and this is an opinion formed from reading many interviews, I really don't agree with her view on some of her characters. Ok, she wrote them- but once they're out there, then I can interpret them as I see them, and I do not need to rely on her view. For example, the character of Harry Potter. She loves him, he's the embodiment of many praiseworthy qualities, etc. I don't agree. I happen to think as a character, he's a self-absorbed, reckless, messed up kid- he spent his first 11 years being physically and emotionally abused, living in a cupboard. This is not a normal person here.

The world she created is incredibly engaging, and there are scenarios and attitudes towards various things she barely touched upon in her works. (which is why good fanfic is so very, very good). I respect that, but it's a little hard to respect someone who swears up and down and sideways there will only be 7 HP books, and she'll never write about him again, and now they're backtracking. I love the world, enjoyed the books at the time, hate the canon relationships in the book, and dislike many of the characters. I think she should leave well enough alone.

No. I wouldn't want to have that much money, or anywhere close to that amount. My statement was referring more to that her fortune came from these books (she was poor when she started) and I feel like she's realizing that her income is basically gone, ooh, I need more money, even though she doesn't.

You know what? When you get close, start giving me the overflow.

I also don't agree.

Hmm, but I don't agree with this either. If anything, if he were more emo and selfish I'd probably like him more. I think he's just dull and witless.

He doesn't come across to me as dull and witless, just incredibly self-centered. I never would have thought of him as dull, personally.

FTR, my favourite character is Draco Malfoy. And then maybe Ginny, though what Rowling did to her in Book 7 is terrible.

My favorite is Snape. Another character who did not get his due.

I think its a great idea. If she can pull off another good book, then kol hakovod to her. Any millions of dollars she earns, she deserves.

I don't understand. Do you think she writes because she is greedy?
