There's something in my house that would take 1 bite of banana (during the night). Now that we don't have bananas it's taking a bite of avocado. Anyone know what this could be?

Can you post a picture of the bite/toothmarks?

Is your kid in a bed or crib?

I don't think it's rats. They would eat more than one bite. Plus, no droppings.

I threw it out.
Arizona
My immediate thought was a child. Are you sure that your kid isn't somehow getting out (or getting to the food during the day and you just don't notice until later)?

Next time.

We can probably identify it easily from the teethmarks.

100% sure it's not. It's out of reach (on a high counter) among other reasons.

There are no teethmarks, only thing left are small black shavings (not droppings) and an oval hole about the size of someones thumb

Wouldn't you rather it be your kid vs. an animal?

A monkey? Mouse? Raccoon? I am not sure if there is any one particular animal who will be picky what it eats. Sorry sad.gif

Is it a bite taken out or not?

I guess I'd rather it be the kid. But I don't know if even I can bite through and eat an avocado peel.

It looks almost as if the fruit is rotting away in that one area. But these things are recently bought.

Worms.

(and who says shavings can't be another form of droppings?)

Here is a picture of some shavings next to another avocado. Not a great picture but.....

Usually rodent droppings are shaped oval and are solid.

Not always, mice-droppings look like chocolate sprinkles.

Right, in this case they're parts of the peel that got bored-away and dropped off.

Have any of your kids' out of reach toys been nibbled?
Do you hear silly jingles being hummed in the middle of the night?
Have you noted any territorial pissings around your house?
Have you checked soap in your bathrooms for bite marks?
Have you noticed shavings inside your Artscoll books?

Check out this youtube video:

In the info about the video, the person writes:
"We had a mouse eating the fruit in our fruit basket about every second night (ripe bananas and avocados being the favourite).."

FYI
Other than humans, I don't know what animal eats bananas and avocados. (although I happen to enjoy both of those foods) which is why I didn't reply to this one.
