Ok, Let's hear the free advice.

Gimmie something to work with, got a blog you want to optimize?
Milton
No, but if I did have a blog or website, what would you do to optimize the site?
International
It all depends...Its like asking, If I had a house, how would you design the interior?

I need something concrete to work with.
Milton
Good point. How can you optimize hashkafah.com?
the Real Adiel
How about karensmaternity.com?

Your keywords are not exactly competitive. Try getting good placement on something like "maternity clothes"

Wow, It’s a nice site but theres a lot I would change.

Internal:

Lets start with the meta tags, I would recommend you change them to the following:
CODE
<TITLE>Maternity Clothing | Maternity Deals | Maternity Shopping</TITLE>
<META NAME="author" CONTENT="MarensMaternity.com">
<META NAME="subject" CONTENT="Maternity Discounts, Maternity Shop">
<META NAME="Description" CONTENT="Maternity Clothes, Maternity Sales and Maternity Coupons featuring Motherhood Maternity.">
<META NAME="Classification" CONTENT="Maternity Shopping, Sales and Deals.">
<META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="Maternity Clothing, Maternity Pants, Maternity Discounts, Maternity Deals, Maternity Sales, Maternity Shopping">
<META NAME="Language" CONTENT="English">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="never">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="CACHE-CONTROL" CONTENT="PUBLIC">
<META NAME="Copyright" CONTENT="KarensMaternity.com">
<META NAME="Revisit-After" CONTENT="7">
<META NAME="distribution" CONTENT="Global">
<META NAME="Robots" CONTENT="INDEX,FOLLOW">

Remember, Each page should have different title, keyword and description tags
______________________
You have almost no pages linking from the front page, Which is very bad. I would strongly suggest you generate a few pages like the following (These links should be close to the top of the page so the robots see it first
Maternity Discount Codes | Maternity Coupons | Maternity Deals | Maternity Sales
Maternity Bras | Maternity Pants | Maternity Dresses | Maternity Pants | Maternity Tops
You need to make the above urls SEO friendly as well for example
http://www.karensmaternity.com/maternity-coupons.html
_______________________
You need to have more text on the page, Google hates all images/external links – with no text.
On top of the page you should write a nice 120 word paragraph that’s keyword rich for example:
Karen’s Maternity features a large selection of maternity discounts, maternity coupons, maternity deals and maternity sales. You will also find top brands like Motherhood, Mimi Maternity, Blah Blah,….
All of the keywords should be linking to an internal page.

The CJ and LinkSynergy links are very bad for seo, because google sees you linking to weird domain names and nothing internal – I would try to find a way to mask them a bit (I know it’s against TOS of CJ)
_______________________
Your images are linking to themselves rather then to seo friendly pages

I see that you have 232 indexed pages which is good but not good enough because its all archive pages.
You need to make a sitemap ASAP, (on xml version for the search engines and one html for the visitors)

External:

You don’t have enough backlinks and the ones you do have arnt doing much good because of the anchor text your anchor text should be keyword rich for example: Maternity Discounts
Did you digg your site? Delicious? Stumble? Dmoz? Yahoo Directory? All very important.

If you want I can change the main image on top to something a bit nicer.

As far seo is concerned i give it it a 1 out of 10.

The site needs alot of work but the good news is, (Not metas, Internal CSS, SEO-unfriendly urls, etc) all of it can be fixed by just installing a mod like this one

I don't think all those tags are really necessary. Google doesn't even look at meta tags anymore. IMO, as long as you have the title, description and keywords in there you did what you could there.

I was thinking about doing that but I don't have that content and wouldn't want to clutter the home page just for SEO. How important are links from the home page? This may be something I can work on.

1. I have about 70-80 words of optimized text before I start with the sales. I don't have any keywords linking to internal pages because I don't really have any internal pages. I do hope to roll out a new home page with the same basic design but a different layout. I'm going to have a company directory with with a teaser coupon/sale next to it. The link will go to an internal page optimized for that company, that page will have all the coupons/sales for each company.

2. I put a nofollow tag before every affiliate link to stop google from seeing it as a link., I thought that helped. Does it?

3.You're right about the sitemap, I need to do that.

Backlinks, what I think is the cornerstone of all SEO. It's very difficult to get good backlinks, the site needs to have a high PR and be relevant. Not easy to get. I did Yahoo directory and dmoz hasn't accepted me (yet?) I need to do the social bookmarking thing, I have not gotten around to it.

I have a press release that will be releasing in a few days and I'm hoping to start a link-baiting campaign but that's going to take time and planning.

Finally, I realize that you put in some serious time checking out my site and writing up this post....Thank You!!!

OT, my wife's other site has a PR3 with no real SEO effort karensplus.com

You can do without the additional meta tags, but social sites and archive sites like it. Robots love it too. You have to at least put a 7 day revisit for the robots, especially if you claim to update the site every tuesday.

Links on the homepage are the second most important thing you can do internally (On site). So even if you generate other pages and fill it up with dummy content your still better off. It's extremely important. Google wants you to be a valuable resource and a pleasent experiance for visitors, if you only have one page then they assume you don't have to much to offer....

No follow tags will stop robots from crawling that link, they still see it. I did some research, i hear it's ok to leave it as long as there arnt to many so it isnt considered spam.

Get onto on-topic forums and make signatures like the one I have here and make a few normal usefull posts (Not comment spamming)

who designed the site? did you use any scripts? (cant be bothered checking myself)

Oh, i almost forgot i didnt notice h1.h2 tags etc.

If I don't have a revisit tag, how often does it crawl my site?

I won't have dummy content on my site just for SEO, I get lot's of return visitors and don't want to turn them off by having crud content on my site. If I do decide to add those links, I'll have to create high quality content pages for them.

I do have a lot of affiliate links on the site. I could use redirects like the bigger affiliate sites do. That should help....

Forums barely help IMO, if the page rank is zilch (which it usually is on a forum) then google doesn't care about the backlink.

I had it designed, very few scripts. Search, newsletter and one that collects data for me.

I noticed you plug bluehost on your blog. I use bluehost and should warn you that if you have a lot of traffic, you should beware of the CPU processing cap they have in place. I got my site pulled dozens of times due to high traffic. I was running five popular domains on the account at that time so I added an account and split my traffic in two. I also got my bid minimums raised by Google (PPC) to the point where it wasn't worth advertising there anymore which also reduced my traffic by 60%, so I don't have that issue anymore.

But if you're running a bunch of scripts that take up CPU power and your site is popular I would NOT recommend bluehost.

That's a nice quick redesign, perhaps we could do some business.....

By dummy content i had high quality dummy content in mind.

redirects is good (but read the TOS first)

Forums do help. (but not as much as static high pr based links)

Would you consider getting it redesigned completely?

I spoke to matt (Owner of bluehost) about the issue.....he is working on some fixes - they moved into a new datacenter recently which helped things along.
I only experience problems with them when i test shopping cart systems. ( I made $1900 this year from referrals to them alone)

I need to research redirects in a way that my wife can do it. She does all the content and she's not that tech savvy.

I just got it redesigned. smile.gif I may ask you to clean up the top a little and maybe do some some SEO work. PM with your fee schedule.

Search for CPU in the Bluehost forums, this is not an error that happens with Bluehost, it's a cap they chose to implement. If you're not getting too much traffic then it doesn't really matter, it's only if you're running a lot scripts or have heavy traffic. They're always sending me e-maisl about upgrades which is nice but that won't help here.....
