All of my friends who passed bar exams outside of NY are already lawyers, but since NY doesn't begin to do background checks until AFTER someone passes its bar exam, I won't be a lawyer for months, probably. And it will make a big difference in my salary, so I'm annoyed about that.
Then, NY requires candidates to attend a three-hour "orientation" meeting, where they basically tell you not to steal your client's money! Well, duh!
For those who live in Brooklyn or Queens, we're in district 2, and the orientation course is offered in Brooklyn, White Plains, and Lindenhurst (which I thought was a kind of cheese). But the course in Brooklyn is only offered on Friday afternoons (from 1:30 - 4:30). Wouldn't you think that a significant number of the frum lawyers in NY live in Brooklyn or Queens, and are denied the opportunity to attend the training class in the most convenient location, because it's only offered late on Friday afternoons?
So now, I'm going to have to go to Lindenhurst, where the class is given on Friday mornings.
