Not excited in the least. Her recipes call for ingredients that I've never heard of. I don't even think those products can be gotten in the tri-state area.

Right, and Pesach time is davka when you don't want to be patchke-ing. You need quick, simple, and good. Most people are cooking for crowds when it comes to Pesach, and don't have time for elaborate recipes. But I will admit that I would love to look through it, just not buy it.
Elana
not excited only because one of her books (KBD?) has a list of all the recipes suitable for pesach and notes which ones can be changed to suit.

I disagree, I've never had trouble finding any of the ingredients, although I did have to go out and get them, since some aren't pantry staples. Recently her books have featured a lot of asian-style recipes, and I tend to have those ingredients on hand. new

It's disappointing that the new book is mostly rehashing old recipes with passover substitutions. Most decent cooks could figure out how to adjust a recipe for pesach, and she even gives substitutions in the back of the book! Seems to me like a ploy to get us to buy yet another $32 cookbook. I won't be getting it, even though KBD and BT-SOT are staples of my cooking.

not THAT hard to find.

And totally delicious!!!

I'm actually very excited as this is the first time I'm cooking Passover myself really and I don't own all the other books (just one). Also, we try to stay away from gluten because of allergy issues and maybe this book will be helpful in finding nice recipes.

Is it really that hard to find hoisin sauce, im sure they have Chinese stores in NY. And how many recipes have that ingredient?
Red Hare
no, not at all. Lub. has too many chumras that time of year to be food-creative.

You have to know how to elegantly stuff an onion with mashed potato, Red Hare wink.gif
Elana
jsut from flipping through her books, i think KBD entertains has the most weird, unusual ingredients

Makes sense. Unusual provides entertainment.

Actually Short on Time has an abnormally large amount of recipes with hoisin sauce. It's actually really easy to find at kosher stores, it's just one of those foods that's easy to get ahold of.

Susie tends to find a certain style/ingredient and beat it to death, eg. hoisin sause and also panko breadcrumbs in SOT. I believe KBD is more italianate. She definitely goes through phases.
