This is cool - you can shoot, but they can't shoot you:

Of course, if they have the same weapon, then either you're gonna be shooting in vain from behind corners all day, or someone will have to outmaneuvre the other guy.

They can still shoot your gun, no?

Yes. Though it is a much smaller target area. And it's made out of a hard material (steel) so it is more difficult to damage.

Also, this is very useful in combat situations (like in Iraq):

The armored vehicle protects you from gunfire, and with the remotely operated gun system you do not need to be outside the vehicle at the turret, and you have more accuracy and stability.

Of course, you are still vulnerable to roadside bombs and rpgs or anti-tank missiles, but I recently saw a show on the military channel about an armored car that is specifically made to withstand even those.

Also in suburbia, for housewives who need to go to the supermarket and pick up the kids.

It is not so useful for picking up the kids, because for them to enter you need to open the door, which immediately exposes you to enemy fire from the adjacent projects.

It is actually a mural painted over the side of the vehice, deceivingly enticing the enemy to shoot at it.

Once they do, this sniper triangulation system

determines the direction the shot came from and the shooter is engaged.
