You mean the lifespan is longer?

Perhaps becuase of the revolving door situation where young religious olim go to EY and older non-frum Israelis leave and eventually die in Chu"l? Also becuase with a lower median age you'd have a lower per-capita death rate since a larger percentage of your population is young.

Probably at least partly because there is socialized medicine and therefore universal health care.
Everyone gets their medical concerns treated, so no one dies a premature death because of untreated medical issues, as they do in a country like the U.S. where a certain percentage of the country is uninsured.

Also, the diet is far healthier in Israel - more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, nuts, fewer fats and meats and junk foods - and the lifestyle is more active. There is less obesity. So that leads to a longer lifespan.

In addition, there are fewer social problems leading to drug and alcohol abuse which also cause and exacerbate health issues and premature death.

If Americans loose weight when they move to EY it has to do with the lower
quality of the food, but there's plenty of fat Israelis. Think Tahini, HaShachar Haoleh and Bamba.

Let me guess, fewer Israelis die in motor vehicle accidents per capita since people will not be caught offguard if someone is driving the wrong
way in the freeway...

You forgot the biggest fatty of all...Ariel Sharon wink.gif

Aren't there more gun inspired deaths in the USA where gun ownership is quite common?

Also, there definitely isn't a great drinking (alcohol) culture in Israel (as opposed to the UK, some parts of Europe and some parts of the USA where its a social norm to drink yourself into oblivion).

Nothing to do with the active lifestyle?

The family of Sharon asked a rabbi to give him a bracha, so the rabbi gave him a bore pri ha'adamah.

Remember, the numbers there are skewed by all the people who come there for retirement. When the median age is say 75, you will have a lot more deaths than in a community with a median age of 25.

Americans do indeed have a shorter life expectancy than Israelis, despite the war, terrorism and other stress there.

Israelis have the 8th longest life expectancies of any nation--82.8 years for women, 78.5 for men. Americans are actually falling behind more countries in their average life expectancies and levels of health. Bad habits and a health care system that is very expensive yet inefficient are to blame. The USA is now ranked 38th worldwide for life expectancies--80.8 years for women, 75.6 for men. We are now behind Cuba, Chile, Cyprus, Malta and the United Arab Emirates!!!

For one thing, Americans, especially children have higher levels of obesity than in other countries.

Less kids smoke though.
