Is it possible? Like in a day-two? I think I heard there is something like this for applying for passport, but what about renewing?

Thanks.

You will need to use a passport expediting service, as the expedited service through the government takes about three weeks. Through an expediting service you should be able to get one in a day or two.

Here is a link to a site with more info. and reviews of some expediting companies, but you can find many more by googling:

Yes it is, but I don't know how.

Which I find quite humurous. My husband took my children on december 27th (iirc) to get their passports. They arrived last friday in the mail. We did not pay or apply for any expedited service. I think the government enjoys driving us crazy...

I know. The government is clearly capable of processing them much more quickly when there is no backlog, but just doesn't want to commit to quicker turnaround times in case another backlog develops. The three week timeframe I quoted came straight from the state department's site.

thanks, Rachel; i know something like this existed. will pass it on to my co-worker - she planned on going to florida with ehr kids, but realized yesterday that she has no valid picture ID.

FYI, i can relate to that. before i became a citizen, i applied for the travel document (was planning on going to israel with a friend. first she got engaged on me and cancelled going cause had to prepare for the chasunah; and then i was told that it takes from 6 months on to get that travel document, while i had a few weeks). i applied anyway and got it witihin 2-3 weeks!!! i did something i regret not doing more - went myself!

You used to be able to get it in 48 hours if you had tickets. I didn't know you needed to hire expediters now. Typical of this government...

(just looked: you can still get an in-person if you have tickets for the next 14 days, but there's no guarantee of getting an appointment immediately.)

oh, when I've done passports (mine and daughter's) through the embassy here it was super quick! Got them back in about 10 days.

thanks, people. i searched yesterday and gave my co-worker 2 addresses in manhattan. iirc, her flight was supposed to be tomorrow. she didn't come today - made an appointment at one of those places i gave her. let's hope it works out for her.

It should go fast this time of year anyway. I handed my renewal in on 12/31/07 at the post office. I received the new passport in the mail on 1/9/08. 10 day turnaround. Not bad!!
