TO ALL-
With my wife Sunday night, I saw the film The Hebrew Lesson about students at an ulpan in Tel Aviv. Featured in the film were two Chinese wives of Israeli Jews and one German girlfriend. It seems that non-Jewish foreign girlfriends, not just wives, can get residency and permission to work in Israel. The German woman got permission to work and then was employed as an aide for elderly German speaking Jews. This policy is more liberal than the USA where US citizens can only bring in foreign spouses and fiancees. Australia has provisions to bring in "domestic partners", however.
So, now, I'm curious about Israeli law. 1)When is a relationship with a non-Jew considered significant enough that the Israeli Jewish partner can get him/her permission to live and work in Israel? 2)Are gay relationships also recognized by the Israeli government? The US government does not recognize them for immigration purposes, although Australia does.
BTW, this is purely intellectual curiosity on my part as I am married to a nice, observant Jewish woman.
