I thought I'd be the last one ever posting in this section but here goes:
Ever notice that your favorite things just end up disappearing? No, you still have yours. But you can't find another one to buy when yours wears out, breaks etc. And it's a darn shame because it's great stuff!
Like this pair of shoes I've been wearing almost daily for the last four years. I bought them on sale at the DSW outlet at Woodbury Commons. Awesome pair of shoes. Tan suede platform lace ups. I don't care whether or not they're in style. They are ridiculously comfortable but they're seriously starting to wear out. Their end has been near for a while now. I've been trying to buy a new pair but alas.
About a year ago I bought a brush set from Sephora. It was from their professional collection. Each brush is serious quality and it came in this gorgeous leather case. I use this thing whenever I put on makeup (which isn't that often but still). So I wanted to buy it for my friend's wedding present but couldn't find it on the website anymore. They replaced it with a $150 set which is a little outside my price range.
Such is life.

Yup. I found out Clinique no longer makes the perfume I like. Thank goodness for ebay because I was not able to find it in any stores.

Same with me and my favorite lipstick. I thankfully was able to find it on ebay still sealed.

You mean... No, don't tell me...
Is used lipstick a hot commodity?

Sure I know the feeling.
I had a pair of white leather flats from Nine West, that I bought when I was 16. They were so comfortable I wore them (VERY often) for nearly 6-7 years, re-soling, and re-soling them. Til my husband forcibly wrestled them from me and dumped them.

No. Ebay is not just for used stuff.

That much I know (my fist sale on eBay, back in 1999, was for 20 pairs of used socks). I though perhaps you were indicating there was a market for used lipstick as there is for, er, other articles of feminine clothing.

Are you saying that women purchase used underwear on ebay?

You can only buy discontinued makeup and stuff on ebay for so long. at some point the stuff is really old and you have to start anew.
spoken from someone who has not once but twice returned makeup this week, after being in 2 different stores, because of matching the color incorrectly ....

Not women. And I doubt they allow sales of such items on Ebay. Although vibrators etc are sold under other names. Like massagers etc.
FYI, I did not intend for this topic to take this turn, but whatever.

It was for something around $5 plus shipping. I just did it for the heck of it...

First of all, they do sell "such items" on eBay. Second of all, of course they're not sold under different names.

Yea..my comfy, 'bouncing sole' Doc boots. That were hard enough to find via ebay because they were already discontinued. Now that ebay seller has closed up shop too..

Yes, especially with makeup. As soon as you find a new lipstick or eyeliner that you really like it becomes discontinued. This just happened with me this past weekend with an eyeliner I love from Guerlain.

I expect this with clothing and shoes but not with makeup.

If I recall correctly, you were very vocal regarding getting rid of BYLR, so it's very interesting to hear that you now support it's existence. Good to know...

To be clear, I still do not like the private elitist forums and in an IDEAL society they would not exist and the h.com playing field would be entirely level (with the exception of n00bs, but they DESERVE being put down and hazing is ESSENTIAL to prevent this site from going down the drain), but since there already IS a BYLR and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon, discussions that belong there should go there. Additionally, I didn't realize the flood of girly topics this board would receive as a result of the dissolving of BYLR and almost think it would be better if the chicks stick to their own place and leave us men alone. The chicks are never here when we need them, anyway.

You must have also missed my numerous posts calling for MORE private elitist forums.

Such is life. Especially when your shoes started their life at the outlet mall, you were pretty much erasing all hope of ever finding something like it again. I have this issue with shoes all the time, more that they get seriously worn out and I can't find something like it easily. Women's flats have a short lifespan, it's too bad.

I don't understand. Why don't you people buy multiples when you think you'll really like/use an item? And if you didn't know how much you'd like it at the time of purchase, why didn't you return to the store a couple of weeks later (when you did know) and buy more then?

The way it works for me is that I don't realize how much I love it until it starts to wear out and I'd love to have another one.

I've had a couple makeup items get discontinued on me, but I can't really understand the frustration with shoes being discontinued. Shoe styles change; if you've been wearing the pair for four years already, chances are it's not in style anymore. Why would you want another one just like it? There are other comfortable, in-style shoes out there.
