I pronounce it 'she'.
In addition to my name, it is the fourteenth letter of the Greek alphabet, and equals eleven. I have heard several other explanations that I don't care to go into right now, but that are out there, floating around.

It is pronounced "zī," "sī," or in modern Greek, "ksē."

Its value is 60 in the Greek numeral system. Oh, you mean that xi is 11 in the Roman numeral system.

I based it on the Pinyin / Chinese, not the Greek. smile.gif The other explanations were from fellow h.commers and others.

Our poster, Xi, pronounces it "she." But, at least in ancient Greece, it was pronounced like the Hebrew word כי (only where the כ is רפה). Clear your throat and go chhhhhi.

I'm having a hard time understanding this.

Using yeshivish, what sound would that be?

Chee, rhymes with "me," but begins with the same sound as the name "Chaim."
