When the computer starts, there are programs that go on automatically. However, when one goes to start> all programs> startup, there are only a few of those listed. How do you find and delete the other ones?
aishel
Click Start --> Run --> type: 'msconfig' (without the apostrphes) --> go to the startup tab --> see what programs start up
Satan
run msinfo32.exe
NVM Aishels way is quicker.

Thank you. How do I know which are safe to delete/uncheck?

drag the command column so that you can see the entire line. Then google the various .exe files and see what it is they do. If you need it at startup, leave it checked. Otherwise, uncheck it.

Over a fun hour of googling processes of another's computer, it became apparent that there are one or several keylogger or Trojan thingies running on their computer, and probably the reason that computer is painfully slow. What's to be done?

put an anti-virus program on their computer and tell them they were really dumb if they didn't have one that ran regularly on their computer. And if they did, tell them it's time for a new one since it's clearly not doing it's job.

SpyBot is an excellent program. It catches stuff Norton lets slip right by.

They have two running already. Neither seem to be picking up on it.

Thanks, looks good.

I decided to try SpyBot on my own computer first, where it was rather annoying when I tried to uninstall another program, making me go through lots of popup windows before it finally finished.
Also, in msconfig, the boxes I unchecked came back when I restarted the computer, but perhaps that's because I clicked OK instead of Apply.
