Mazal tov to a dear friend of mine, who has been lurking here since the beginning of time..but has never had the courage to sign up and post. When I say lurking, I mean lurking religiously.
Mazal Tov on the birth of your baby (who's gender shall remain anonymous because you are extremely paranoid).

People, please add your mazal tov wishes as she knows everyone intimately from all the lurking (in a good way) and would appreciate all good wishes.

Is she married to me? (Maybe I have a super secret wife and even I don't know it.)

this is the weirdest request i've ever seen here.

she knows us because she watches us bickering like monkeys in a zoo but won't join in, and yet we have to wish a mazal tov to a person none of us know and none of us have anything to do with, who just had a baby that we don't even know what gender????

mazal tov. i'd add a balloon but i don't know what color.
FYI

At first I Was wondering why we should be wishing mazel tov to someone that won't join us and wants to stay away from us, but then....I realized this thread is probably to show her that she will be noted on the main board even without joining to encourage her to join, so MAZEL TOV!!!!

She knows us in an intimately good way? Whatever does that mean?

I can just imagine all the H.commers searching like crazy on OS.

Anyway, Mazel Tov! Great news! May all the blessings come true.

I find it weird when regular posters expect mazal tov wishes. I mean, why should I wish mazal tov to someone I don't know and have nothing to do with?

Is it really that big a deal to wish someone a mazal tov?

It seems to me that members don't have a problem praying on behalf of an unknown ill person and hence all those tehillim lists all the time. Why not be as willing to wish a mazal tov to a non-member as quickly as one would say tehillim on behalf of a sick non-member?

True, but they are still basically anonymous. "Sender ben Liphsheh Rochel" means little more to me than "Gretchen's friend".

I don't see why Gretchen's friend won't just sign up. It's not that big of a deal.

Possibly, but 1. I have heard that certain h.com members relish their reputations as "noobie slayers" and 2. Regardless: So we should punish her by not wishing a mazal tov?

The noobie slayer era is over. Nowadays if someone signs up they are given a fair shot although not as much respect as some senior members. As far as punishment, I guess not. But we don't even know this woman. It's like singing happy birthday for someone who sits outside the whole time looking in through the glass.

Maybe if we made her feel welcome....

I think it's nice to feel and share in the joy of every Jew. I find it a little weird that people would rather say mazal tov to a stranger they "know" than a stranger they don't. Personally, I don't generally wish people mazal tov here (and I know that's not so nice) but at least I don't differentiate between "these strangers" and "those strangers."
