Does anyone ever still have those little feathers in the band of a fedora?
And is the band strictly decorative?
And what's the fashion etiquette of that ribbon band around the crown - is a decorative clip/buckle/bow de rigueur?
Should the band always match with anything such as your belt?

My father. (Maybe my brother has one old hat like that, but I don't want to ruin his shidduch chances.)
I know a few yekkes that do.

And I do have to mention that my father (wavey.gif) still is wearing suits from the 70's (gray and pink plaid) so it doesn't say much.

I found a nice feather on the ground one day a few years ago, and stuck it in the ribbon band of my Akubra Bogart. (This was back when Akubra would sell hats direct to the consumer, including shipping from Australia, for something like $50).

I keep the Bogart at my Mom's place in Florida, and wear it whenever I'm in Boca. The black hat that I wear in NYC doesn't have a feather. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy a feather (I guess they sell them at Arts and Crafts stores), but if I found a nice one, I might make use of it.

What if it came from a diseased pigeon?
