it's an exception :shrug:
as a rule, the gender of nouns follows their singular form:
milah chadasha, milim chadashos/t
makom kadosh, mekomos/t kedoshim
Then there are the words like derech (and Talis) that can be EITHER or...

Because Hebrew, like every other language (except Esperanto), has irregular words....
